Noop, The problem happened years ago back in the 80's. Folks were putting 80w in the trannies. They were complaining about them being hard to shift. Come to find out when the tranny fluid weight was converted from Metric to English they were actually supposed to have 75w. Speed that up to the present time they are supposed to have 75w90 GL4. The problem with 85w is it makes the tranny tuff to shift when it get's in the 40's. You can mess up a syncro if you shift it wrong cold. This info has been known for years and people still put the wrong fluid in it.

I emailed PPG about the possibility of them building an upgraded transmission. They said they checked into it and didn't have enough interest to justify the cost. I guess we have way too many broke dicks with 350z's and 370z's that don't want to pay the price.

I take that back. They are interested and would need 5 people to commit. The question is Dog engagement or heavy duty syncro's? Haven't asked about a sequential gearset yet.

What about Shep? I wonder if they'd be interested.

This is what PPG does. They make sequential gear sets for the R32,R33, R34 GTR.

I need 5 people. We need to decide between dog box or heavy duty syncro's.

I replied back Heavy Duty Syncro for the masses. Most folks will not want Dog engagement. I beat they could do a PPG sequential gear set but the cost might be way over what most folks can afford. I will sit back and wait for another reply. I did ask for a billet input shaft, stronger 3rd gear, and heavy duty synchro's.

I was poking around at the Sequential gear sets for the R32, R33, R34 GTR and they are 17k or so. The normal helical gear sets with heavy duty syncro's are around 4-5k. This may be a no go for most folks.

I've looked into gear sets before for the Z. Slim pickin's. The people I talked to years ago, said it would be $$$$$ if they did it.

At least you got someone to talk to you.

True, They have went silent now since I asked for a billet input shaft. New tranny from Nissan is around 1800. Just the parts for an upgrade would be around 4 to 5k. That is not installed either. Most folks don't want to spend the 1800 for a new tranny. No way will they want to spend on just the upgraded gear set and synchro's.

What do you think install costs might be? $1500?

To install the gear sets? If the tranny is already out. I figure around $500 or so unless they have to do some machining. It's not hard to take a manual apart. Machining is a different story.

I've had the BorgWarner T10's, Super T10's and the Mopar Hemi trannies apart and swapped out the gear sets with either Nash or Liberty gear sets.
