Stage 3 JDM performance Chip

I want to get a performance chip so I don't void the warranty on the stock one. If I switch them out will Nissan be able to detect that when I switch them back for servicing? Also does the 2012 370z have an OBD II connection?

370Z JT 04-07-2012 09:43 PM

What chip do you have in mind?

Stage 3 Performance Chip OBDII Module

This one. ^^

Looks suspect. stage3? JDM? You see their other products? Electric super charger? I would stay away.

cdoxp800 04-07-2012 10:28 PM

I would not waste my money on that thing.

All of those products are pure trash. Don't touch anything on that website.

I say 'go for it'! Sounds exciting! Stage 3?!?! A chip giving 40hp/40TQ from a non-turbo'd engine?!?!

Pure magic!

TerribleONE 04-09-2012 09:20 AM

stay away!

lol Trust me. This is exactly the reason I am posting this on here. Just starting off on anything related to this kind of stuff.........Since it's not a good idea, what would you recommend. I want to get a retune but don't want to void the powertrain warranty on the current ECU. Any help would be appreciated.

I agree that product looks like BS, but not sure what you mean about the OBDII port. All vehicles since 1996 are required to have them by law.

Do you have any other mods? If not, and even if you did, depending on what they are you will more than likely not need a tune. Will it make the car a little bit nicer to drive? Yes. But if you are concerned about warranty and don't feel like fighting dealers over it, I would not do it.

As far as tuning, Uprev is pretty much the only option for us at the moment. It lets the tuner control settings on the stock ECU by flashing it. You cannot add "chips" to these cars.

What are your goals anyway? Do you just want more power? If so, there are plenty of bolt on options for that.

Ah oops, I guess I missed the part where the OP actually asked that. Yeah...

I put Injen CAI and FI 18" CBE. That is all I am doing for now. I have read a few blogs and the common push is for an UPREV tune to get full benefits from these bolt ons. Others are also saying that after so many miles the computer will adjust on it's own to the changes.

Fighting the dealer with warranty issues is definitely more important that a few HP.

Thanks for the input.

Ron 04-10-2012 09:45 PM

Computer will adjust to your mods and make your car reach proper AFRs. A tune will do the same, give you about 6hp more and better throttle response amongst other things. It is also not cheap at over $750 for licensed cable and tune itself.

Other benefits of Uprev can be found here: http://uprev.com/secure/osiris-standard.html

That helps out a lot!!! $750 for 6 more hp is definitely not worth it at this stage.

Thanks again.
