Recommend a Transmission and Diff Oil

I am planning on replacing my transmission and diff fluids...i was wondering if people have any recommendation on which oil/brands/types to use... after reading through posts through out the forum... i was thinking of using royal purple syncromax for the transmission and royal purple max gear for the diff... please let me know what you think...

I'm considering the RP stuff for my diff as well, haven't gotten around to it yet though.

I used Redline for both in my 350z and it worked wonders. Huge improvement over stock for shifter feel

I'm running Redline engine oil and I may just stick with redline for tranny and diff oil too.. but keep in mind, the maintenance guide recommends the first change around 30,000 miles or 24 months (but if you want to change it earlier, it's up to you.)

just change my transmission and diff fluids to RP... the transmission fluids were fine but the diff fluids is just black... i dont know why this is but i am happy that i decided to switch it out... maybe because of overheating... fyi... miles on the car is 5260mi... no track...i dont know if it matters, but i often drive from los angeles area to santa barbara with out breaks (about 130 mi)...

I wouldnt recommend Royal Purple. I'd go with AMS Oil, Motul, Redline. Just don't get anything to high performance on the the fluid, if you get racing fluid from any of those companies your transmission will shift very hard when the fluid is cold but amazing when its hot. If you daily your car get a mid level fluid.

I went with Redline. MT-90 for the trans. 75W90 for the Diff.

MT-90 is Great stuff, how do you like it in the car? any hard shifting when its cold?

Not that I've noticed. Seems to run smoothly across all temps.

Is there a DIY for changing the transmission fluid? ...I didn't see one

How was the difference compared to the stock transmission fluid?

Imagine wearing a pair of silk boxers, but some idiot comes and dumps crushed walnuts down your drawers. It feels kinda like that. Feels nice and smooth -- sorta.

We've always used Motul Gear 300 75-90 on our Nissan gearboxes. Brilliant stuff. For a street use differential, we run the same thing, and if you intend to do track work, Gear 300 75-140.

I'm buying some Redline tommorrow. What's the fluid capacity for the transmission?

GMZ 07-29-2009 03:11 PM

On my 350 I used RP Max Gear 75-90 in both. The tranny was super notchy when cold but when it was warm it was like butter. Ill probably give RL a shot this time.
