How to install z1 sandwich plate on 2012

I got the z1 33 row cooler but before I tear things down dis anyone install the cooler in a 2012? Trying to see if I need anything else if

Default How to install z1 sandwich plate on 2012

I got the z1 33 row cooler but before I tear things down dis anyone install the cooler in a 2012? Trying to see if I need anything else if I want to keep the stock cooler and the z1. Is the bolt that goes between the filter long enough??

This thread would be better off in the engine/ drivetrain section. I know last week another posted a concern about adding a oil cooler kit to the new 2012 OEM cooler.

You can double stack the plates and utilize the OEM plate or remove it. But I believe the problem with the other person was the OEM water lines that feed the OEM cooler plate got in the way of the aftermarket fittings. Not sure what he did in the end. It was mentioned to remove them but not sure where they feed from or how you go about that.

Thread moved to the right section.

I have no first hand experience with the 2012 setup but I think it will bolt on fine but because of basically having two sandwich plates? You may not have enough room for the larger/taller filter but someone can chime in to correct me if I'm wrong?

Even though it doesn't look like it being this is a close up shot there is plenty of room to double stack plates and use a longer filter. I run the longer/ taller filter at times.

The Z1 Oil Cooler Kit will work just fine with the factory oil cooler on the 2012. The direction sheet should have the added info regarding the clocking position of the sandwich plate for the 2012 models.

We have had NUMEROUS customers in Austrailia and the Middle East successfully install our Z1 Oil Cooler kits onto their cars in past years without any issues. The Middle Eastern and Austrailian spec 370Z's have had the USDM 2012 factory oil cooler since the beginning.

I will try to dig up some of the pics I have that a few Austrailian owners sent me of their installs.

For now, in the event that you recieved the older Install Manual, check out the link below and refer to the bottom of Page 14 for the install details on the 2012+ models:

Here are a few pictures taken by an Australian 370Z owner here on the forums. Unfortuntately I have not been available to take any clearer pictures when we have done these installs in house so I apologize in advance.

The lines can be routed alot simplier than what was done in these images. The bottom line is that you want to minimize the radius of the bends as much as possible to prevent over stressing the lines and fittings. The sandwich plate on this install was positioned with fittings located about the 6'o'clock position. You would ideally need to orient the sandwich plate ideally closer to or just beyond the 7'o'clock position to minimize the threat of damage to the fittings.

So everything installed fine except the adapter bolt is too long and wouldn't tighten the sandwich plate, I had to grind about 4mm off!!

So I'm guessing the 12 oil coolers aren't worth shyt if people are bolting on 34 row oil coolers??? You would think a prepped 12 Z would need at max a 19 row cooler considering there's already an oil cooler in there... what is the benefit of the stock cooler if guys need 34 row aftermarket coolers?

Buttonwillow today around 80's near half to end session in at 250 but seems normal, 34 row and stock cooler. On freeway I don't get over 150 deg, I will need a block off plate for dd.

Stock cooler is good for dd, put a cover on the setrab for dd as the oil will heat up faster...
