Bad Setrab 34 Row Oil Cooler, need help
 

I got myself an upgraded Setrab 34 row oil cooler from the TRUCOOL 24 row cooler. I accidentally put in the wrong fitting, a 90 degree elbow into the Setrab which takes a M22 fitting. At first it leaked right at the Setrab fitting but after I replaced the right elbow AN-10 fitting to the M22 Setrab fitting which has an oil seal...it no longer leaked from the fitting, but it now leaked from the core. I must have busted the core when i put the AN-10 fitting (Longer fitting than the Setrab M22 adaptor to AN-10 fitting) into the M22 connection. Now it's leaking from the side of the Oil cooler. I'm so bumped because I paid good money for this.

Do anyone know if I could repair it? Similar to a radiator? Perhaps welding? where would I take it to get it looked at?

A radiator repair shop could repair it

Will they be welding it? I talked to one of my buddies who has worked in a shop , he said that even at the lowest setting of welding machine, it would melt the Aluminum core...is that true? He said that people don't repair Radiators anymore, at least through welding. He was telling me how Coolant runs at a much lower temp than oil cooler so it may not work. Has anyone done welding for oil cooler repair before?

If your leak is coming from the adapter fitting that screws into the core? disconnect the oil line and remove the adapter fitting and use teflon tape or some other sealant on the adapter fittings threads, And reinstall it with care you don't crank down on it or you're going to damage the threads

originally it was from the fitting, but now I see not leakage at the fittings, it's now below the fittings, i'm afraid it's the core that's damaged. I see leakage about 3 cm below the fitting. I wonder if i Punctured it. It's not leaking at the threads anymore.

here is a Pic if yours is leaking from the threaded adapter thats welded to the core? it maybe ruined :(

it is not leaking from the top of the fitting, rather it's from the side of the core...possibly at the inside of the welded fitting. But no oil is leaking from the top side...i'm thinking could I have punctured the core as the Setrab M22 to AN-10 adapter is shorter than the 90 degree elbow AN-10 adapter I used.

Nice setup by the way, I managed to moved the Core to the left side behind the power steering cooler. I did that mainly because my lines were not long enough.

Yes you have damaged the cooling core with the longer fitting. I'm afraid you will have to replace it as the repairs would probably be more than replacement.

Your only hope for repair is to find a local radiator repair shop, if any exist anymore, and see what they can do. Hint: check the big volumed yellow pages under classified adds for your area.

Don't fix your cooler. Get a new one.

I just took it to a radiator repair shop and they found the leakage internally. So they said it's junked, cannot repair. It's paper thin so it'll make things worst if I try to weld it.

I'm gonna see if it's covered under warranty. But since I modified the bracket Setrab might not warranty my Oil Cooler.

Sigh.

honestly, that's my main concern not to mess with the oil cooler! because of warranty.... thats y i decided to mess with the mounting bracket.
