See, I never had a problem with my Prelude in 3rd, concerning Hondas. Maybe I was lucky.

Maybe I'll go with synthetic then.

Semtex, when did you switch to Redline?

semtex 06-03-2009 07:37 PM

I switched both my MT and LSD fluid to Redline when I installed my headers. (I was taking advantage of the car being up a lift.) Which was a little over a month ago. MT-90 for the transmission, 75W90 for the LSD.

Yea, I'll give Redline a go.

You know, I was also thinking, I don't have the performance package, so no synchro rev match. Wonder if the normal trannies have problems with 2nd and 3rd.

I doubt SRM is going to have much of an impact when upshifting from 2nd to 3rd. I mean, it's not like you're shifting real slow, right? Because that's the only time SRM really comes into play when upshifting.

2nd and 3rd aren't smooth on the downshifts either. But, you're right, if it's just as notchy on upshifts, then it can't be the lack of synchro rev match.

It's looking like this is common enough that it isn't that big of an issue. I'll give the synthetic a shot, and see how that goes.

my 07 civic si used to pop out and grind in 3rd.. changed to amsoil tranny fluid and it went away.. my z feels notchy going into 3rd the same as my civic did but the z never pops out of gear like the civic did but sometimes i feel that it grinds its rare though. im confident that changing the tranny fluid to something like amsoil or redline will fix the issues.. i will do the same soon.

Ive had similar problems except with shifting into 2nd gear, and occasionally shifting into 3rd. My solution is to just get used to the clutch/gas ratio. Once you get used to the point where the clutch engages, ease off the clutch slowly and balance that out by giving it some gas. Dont be afraid to give it gas; that was my problem and it caused the car to jerk. Ive only been driving stick for about a month now so correct me if im wrong.

I always had a very minor problem in my Silvia S15 6 speed going from 2nd to 3rd, only when I was pushing it. Had the car over 6 years and managed to live with it.

I've heard several times it's the same exact transmission as the 350Z's. 2nd gear notchy feeling kind of bugged me in my 08 for awhile, but I either got used to it or it smoothed itself out a little (probably a little of both)
