Default Fact or Myth...please confirm...

So the other day I was showing my new 370 to a friend of mine and asked what he thought about doing a couple minor upgrades...intake, headers, and exhaust...nothing too extreme. I've always trusted his judgement when it came to cars, but this time I could use some more input. He recommended three possible routes based on my needs. One...keep the car stock b/c the power gains from those three upgrades would barely outweigh a perfectly tuned stock engine. Two...Install the upgrades and use the savings from doing my own work to have the car professionally tuned with newly appointed upgrades. And three...I quote, "get a twin turbo kit". Now the last one is a pipe dream and a half for me financially, but my question stands...Is the factory tuned engine a small decrease from an untuned newly upgraded engine? And if so, how much $$$ would a professional tune run me?

Intakes roughly $350-500, HFC, test pipes or LTH $350-1300, CBE $700-1300.
An UpRev cable $500-700 and tune $500.
Doing the above will get you as much as perhaps 330whp.

So the tun would be another 500...fml.

what is the 370 whp stock?

I know the specks are 332 but not to the wheels.

He could just run stillen intakes and exhaust and test pipes or hfc and a tune call it a day. That's around 315+whp.

Roughly base 270whp all relative to conditions and dyno.
Make sure you do your own research before purchasing any upgrades and the support that a vendor gives. F.I. would be a good one for exhaust. K&N drop in are the easiest conversion with some Z1 MAF tubes for intakes.

motordyne exhaust+ art pipes, stillen gen 3 + motordyne intake manifold tune it and make sure you post some reviews the only real PITA of installing all this would probably be that dreaded demon bolt!

hey no brakes, there was a guy on here that did a stock dyno run on his z and it was 286 whp. I am thinkin along the same lines as far as modifications go. 330 is on the high end of power to the wheels but with the right tune it could be possible, but the mileage is goin to suck when it is tuned up that high. I wonder if there is settings where you can convert on the fly from normal tune to race trim?

buy 4 or 5 9'' extensions 1/2'' drive and use a impact, that will do it

I bought z1 smooth post maf tubes, cosworth drop-ins, and a berk cbe. Changed the cars whole personality aurally, and feels a bit stronger. $1200 total. I don't think my mods require a tune.

You are right about the tune not being needed. It would give you a bit more if you did plus other maps for valet and low octane or anti-theft. If you had replaced your cats, it would be best to get the tune. You just have to weigh the cost to power gains.

Cheapest gains IMO are drop-ins w/ MAF tubes and lightweigh underdrive pulleys.

UD pullies sometimes do not (always?) have the best damping system, and this can cause a voided power-train warranty, if nothing else.

I spent about $2600 on all the parts you see in my SIG. $200 of that was to install the Test Pipes because I was to lazy to do it my self and $600 for the UpRev tune and the time on the Dyno to tune the car. Leaving your car on the Dyno is normally expensive since you tie up the dyno for the whole shop so $600 for the Tune and dyno time I think is a very fair price. I made 339whp which 99.9% of people on here say is wrong so lets say I made around 320whp which is what most people make with these mods. A stock 370 makes about 280whp. So thats an increase of lets say 35-50hp. Thats really good for a NA car at least I think. Your friend must own a turbo car.

A good TT kit generally runs more than $6k plus then consider you are now in need again of a CBE and a tune plus install costs... if he can't do any of that himself I would be willing to bet he would be looking at 10k for a TT kit installed with all the accessories necessary to run his car right.

OP In my opinion all the mods discussed just increase the experience of the car and don't make it worlds better to drive... probably looking at an increase in the neighborhood of 25-30 hp for full CBE, intakes, HF cats/test pipes... Definitely adds to the fun factor but if your budget doesn't permit $1,500-2k in accessories just drive the car stock and have fun.

Mid 270's stock, to the tire.

Test pipes, intake of some sort, CBE and Osiris tune will take you to 300+ (these are dynojet numbers)

Long tube Headers will net more (another 15+).
