500hp NA Engine

Check this out, a 500hp NA engine

What do you guys think?

sixpax 03-08-2012 11:46 AM

I don't think this would make it on the epic "Cheapest Mods Thread".

Spikuh 03-08-2012 11:47 AM

I could just about buy another Z for that and have 664 hp instead!!!!

370z TT 03-08-2012 11:53 AM

I'd rather buy an ls7 crate engine and have a ton of room for more power. There has to be a way to fit a 427 ci engine in there

It probably would. Those LS series engines are fairly compact thanks to the pushrod design. No huge heads to make it a PITA to fit in anything.

TerribleONE 03-08-2012 11:59 AM

I agree I think you could make it fit..

I received my custom built engine for my Cobra project the other day. Don't think it would fit in my Nismo.

This is a 427w (351w with 4.125 bore X 4.00 stroke) in a Dart aluminum block with Brodix CNC'd aluminum heads with big custom solid lifter cam and 850cfm Holley carb. Will be running tuned equal length headers and custom sidepipes. All forged internals that will safely take a 300 shot of giggle juice (for those pesky GTRs:-)

As in kit Cobra or Mustang Cobra? I think a kit Cobra will be my next ride. Need something topless for SoCal.

It's Factory Five '65 Cobra Replica. Should go like stink!

Cmike2780 03-12-2012 03:20 PM

Really awesome for N/A, but over $23,969.78 Yikes! Maybe if money was seriously no object. That's very close to a GT-R prices tag once all is said and done.

m4a1mustang 03-12-2012 03:21 PM

Totally different animals!

Sweet! That's the company I was looking at too. Would love to know what you think the car will be all-in at.

ImportConvert 03-12-2012 07:16 PM

So...you can order up to 50?

ImportConvert 03-12-2012 07:18 PM

...and then you figure out that they rated it at 500hp GROSS with no accessories but the water-pump and when you take your superawesomeveryfast 370Z out and roll up at the light and get your *** handed to you by a stock Mustang 5.0 BOSS and you cry and curse and hate your life.

roplusbee 03-12-2012 08:23 PM

LOL! I could actually see someone doing that!

I would hope that if someone goes with this, that they would also go with full bolt-ons and some weight reduction as well. If it were me..........I can't give up my interior, but I would definitely get as much dry carbon parts as possible (since money isn't an object in this scenario)!

Just sold a '65 FF cobra with a fuel inject fully built 5.0L in it. Miss that car already...

The Mustang doesn't have accessories?

m4a1mustang 03-13-2012 01:44 PM

He's talking about a crate motor rated at 500hp at the fly.

Cmike2780 03-13-2012 01:56 PM

That's what I mean. Isn't the Boss 302 crate motor rated at 444hp at the fly w/o accessories? Why would a Z with 500hp @ the fly 'have its *** handed to them by a stock Mustang 5.0 BOSS'?

m4a1mustang 03-13-2012 02:00 PM

I think he was generally talking about a 500hp crate motor rated at 500hp with just the water pump vs. a 444hp boss rated at 444hp with all of the junk attached to it.

ic...I wasn't sure what he meant

m4a1mustang 03-13-2012 02:17 PM

Anyways, $23k. :|

yeah, that's too much for just an engine. even if it's a 500/600 hp..

sure is -___-

This is basically a crate engine correct? I guess you could re-coup some of the cost by selling your old engine. What's it worth? $5k-$8k maybe. Still baller money.

roplusbee 03-13-2012 02:31 PM

Somone needs to jump on this so that we can see power to weight ratios and actually stage a run, lol!

m4a1mustang 03-13-2012 02:32 PM

All I know is if I am ever going to put a crate motor in something it's going to be an LS series because it's light, compact, cheap, and makes easy power.

Gotta tack on core charges then...Another $2500

ZMan8 03-13-2012 02:44 PM

Considering Nissan released the racecar 370z that has the stock engine and it costs 120k or something, this doesn't seem so bad :)

This engine plus: roll cage, gut the interior, full suspension/wheels/tire set up, and a few supporting mods would be a serious race car for probably cheaper than nissans.

LSx will fit... even the maggy blower will fit under the OEM cross bar...

i'll have pics soon.. :)

corbin09 03-14-2012 02:19 PM

Ryan if you are doing what I think you are, we need to chat... Are you rewiring the car and going stand alone? We cant seem to figure out the Sikky kit to make compatible with our ECU. It works with a 350z ecu, I am looking into other options, but this is not plug and play :( If you get some time, please PM me sir.

I've been researching and talking with someone who makes a kit. Yeah, the problem seems to be ECU. They are saying most people go with some sort of AIM kit, but I want to keep it as close to OEM as possible.

Says there's been a lot of work by people piggy backing and even people possibly producing custom harnessing.

I'll keep you updated.

Do you have any detailed schematics for the Z ECU?

corbin09 03-15-2012 09:43 AM

The mounts were the easy part. The problem has def been the ECU. Everyone I have talked to asked if I could somehow make a 350z ECU compatible with our cars. If we wanted to Piggy back we would have to go with a 350z setup as that is all they have worked with. I have Uprev and asked if we could find a solution similar to what Sikky did with the 350z so that is what we are working on now.

I have the schematics for the 350z, not the 370z. Do you? I am thinking I will have to go with a stand alone but it isnt currently in my budget so I guess back to the drawing board for now.

It has been done... but its a 'gaining the knowledge' thing... i will probably get on it in the next few months, so I'll make some calls and see what I can gather.

The LSx ECU pinout is everywhere... let me know if you need it.

It looks like BCU pinouts are in the 370 service manual, but it's all spread out so I will try to start compiling that info, but I didn't see a lot of ECU stuff.

Will let you know.

corbin09 03-16-2012 08:46 AM

Sounds good. I am thinking mine will be finished probably closer to the beginning/mid june. I have all of the LSx stuff I can handle. LS1tech ftw.

bullitt5897 03-16-2012 08:52 AM

If u need an AIM kit give me a call. I have the best prices on aim equipment!!!
