Ae performance oil cooler kit
I'm thinking about buying an ae performance oil cooler it includes a 72 row thin setrab cooler. Anyone have this installed? and are ther any adverse effects from running a cooler core this big on DD? I'll be installing it with a thermostatic sandwich plate for sure.
I have a stock base 370Z 7AT that is my DD. am modifying it so it can also handle the track safely. I'm keeping it NA but eventually adding all the breather mods, a tune then working on handling. I'm wondering if anyone can point me in the direction of what mods need to be done to keep the tranny safe. Will the tranny be tuned the same time I have my ECU tuned? I live near Sacramento, CA. 72 maybe a little over kill for a dd but it would just take longer for the oil to come up to temp in winter but the trade off is NO oil cooling issues in the summer months
Most will go with 25 or 34r like yours truly I've done plenty of Canyon Carving and I'm pretty happy with the 34r Mine is a dd. |

I wouldn't get the ae kit, they are WAY OVER PRICED. The 34 from z1, imho, is a perfect setup. My dd handled 116deg f canyon carving with charm. It never got above 220 with 20 min of solid beatin on the throttle in top 2nd and mid to top 3rd.

72 row is overkill & it's probably way too expensive for what you'll use it for. If it were a dedicated track/race car, I'd say go for it. Spend that cash on upgrading the brakes and tires.

the 34 row kit from z1 is $628 and the ae kit is $700. $70 more for double the cooling capacity.
I'm starting to lean for the 34 row kit to have a faster warm up time an alternative is to invest in a engine block warmer and go for the 72 row kit. |

also take note that ae actually flow differently than the 34 because the lines are attached on the side of the 72 (rather than on the top or bottom of the cooler)... one of the things AE actually pointed out was that their kit would warm up oil just as fast as a 32 kit for that reason...

Im thinking why not, the price difference between a 72R and 34R is only 70 bucks.
will there be any extra strain on the oil pump from such a big core? |

I've been extremely happy with my 25r Stillen cooler, I've never gone above 220 degrees pushing the car hard at the top of 2nd and 3rd with Triple's on my a$s. Warm up times are acceptable, but if it's cool out the car barely reaches 160 degrees even with the thermostatic plate.

The 72 row setrab is half the width, so the effective surface area is roughly the same as the normal series 6 34 row.
It works okay but I'm not convinced it is the perfect solution. The positioning blocks off a lot of airflow to the radiator and raises water temp. Oil flow rates with the -8AN lines are a little bit lower than they need to be so temps still run high on track.

I have the 72 row waiting for me in storage. Hoping I get it installed in April. I went overkill due to the hot Las Vegas weather and shitty traffic. It will be the last thing I'll need to think about.
