Engine noise

Notice this noise after driving for a while. Is it normal sound? I can't reproduce the noise when cold start, then rev to 3000 rpm a few times. The noise only happens after driving for a while.

Sound very normal to me. Just sounds like the valvetrain doing it's thing.

vividracing 01-25-2012 06:31 PM

It does sound a little bit louder than normal, but not anything to really worry about imo. Sound is so subjective on the internet. What oil are you running? A slightly heavier oil might quiet it down a little bit. The injectors make a little bit of noise too.

thats how mine sound like too ,,i think its normal

mantella87 01-25-2012 07:20 PM

Mine sounds like a garbage disposal after long periods of driving. Usually when it's warmer out and after about 1.5 hours of driving.

98intrigue 01-25-2012 07:35 PM

No one's is louder than mine. :(

1slow370 01-25-2012 10:19 PM

^hahaha no seriously you only hear it after driving because the rpms are down low enough and it has solid valvetrain and loud injectors.

Jsolo 01-25-2012 10:53 PM

You guys aint heard nothing yet..

This shows you how loud a mechanical car can be at idle be happy the z's are as quiet as they are.

1slow370 01-25-2012 11:27 PM

jsolo u should throw that in the oem clutch noise thread.

Jsolo 01-25-2012 11:32 PM

Got a link for said thread?

Edit... I think i found it.

roy'sz 01-26-2012 02:26 PM

sounds like injector to me...imho

mad_g37 01-27-2012 12:37 PM

If it is the injector, should it be that loud? And why only hear one injector making the noise. Will take to the dealer next month. Thanks

dealer told me it was mobil 1 syn, should be 5w 30

bigsix 01-27-2012 01:24 PM

fuel injection

roy'sz 01-28-2012 01:55 PM

my injectors on my 08 gt were really loud....so yeah its most likely injectors. try to increase the engine rpm and if the tick increases with speed then most likely it is one of the injectors.

rfisc2170 01-31-2012 02:28 AM

I have the same issue but its only when the engine is cold. It definitely follows the speed of the RPM so the injectors sound like a correct diagnosis. It didn't sound like that when i first bought the car. Is this possibly a harmful situation or HP loss?

mad_g37 02-05-2012 08:32 PM

UPDATE:
After driving for a while to reproduce the noise which can only be heard at idle, I restart the engine, the noise is gone. Someone said it was VVEL knocking, there is a TSB for it to update ECU/ECM, but that was for 2008 model. Mine is 2011 with 3000 miles.

OKC Z 02-07-2012 11:07 AM

The ticking?! Mine does the same thing. When I start the car in the morning it does it and wont stop no matter what as long it stays running from the initial start up. But if i let it warm up then stop the engine and restart it goes away. I say it (MY) lifter/ rocker. But i aint sure. It goes away so i wouldnt worry about it. I was on mobil went to ams oil and same thing so its another characteristic from the on the vhr.

6MT 02-07-2012 11:11 AM

Sounds like some sort of top end valve train noise. Look into it. It probably will get worse. Also, it may be an oil issue. (I know, I'll probably open a few cans of worms with the oil comment.)
