Z1 oil cooler question
 

If Dustin or someone else can answer me, could be great.
I just received my oil cooler from Z1 (witch are nice and quick), all perfect except a dent on it.
it look like that where the damage is, it's where the oil will flow?? or am i wrong??

that will be fine. its just a cooling fin. the oil flows through the middle.

it shouldnt affect performance.. however I would be a little bummed a brand new part looks like that... I guess if you cant see the damage once installed it doesnt matter.. Nice part!

I apologize for the delay, I just found this post by chance.

That dent will not affect the flow whatsoever. To be honest, expect quite a few more once you start driving it. Small bugs, stones and other debris will do this to the core. Regardless I hate to hear that it was damaged in shipping. Was the box damaged in anyway??? I will be sure to notify our shipping guys to make sure additional packing is placed around the cores.

Dustin, just as an idea z1 should manufacture a filter grate to fit the inside nose of the z. that way it eliminates these rocks from hitting not only the oil cooler but the power steering and radiator coolers as well. Just a thought. Thanks again from california with the help you provided. 18000 on my hoses and no leaks, YOU GUYS ROCK!!!

You could always do what I did and install some mesh in the opening. Comes in all sorts of sizes. Smaller you go the better. Check the link below. Plus I have a 34R cooler which you have to run a block off plate most of the time. That helps the most with debri. I don't have a sinlge rock knick anywhere. Even from the track days.

Spohn is right, there are numerous ways to go about this. I did some similar on my personal Z a year or so ago to prevent all the debris from messing up my radiator and 25R core on my older 300zx.

Probably the best sites I have found for purchasing neat little hardware pieces from are Pegasusautoracing.com and McMaster-Carr.

Both sites sell a Stainless Steel mesh that can be attached to the fascia. I personally fit a sheet behind all of the openings on my car and used a quick setting 2-part epoxy to secure it. You can obviously use other methods, but I did not want pop-rivets or screws showing.

I ended up purchasing a 6 x 6 style SS Mesh for my Z with a 0.132" opening size. I painted it black with some rattle can and epoxyied it on the back side of the fascia. From a distance you can not tell it is there. Up close it looks like an OEM piece. Just make sure to glue and cut the mesh so that the mesh rush both parallel and vertical with the fascia. LOL...do glue it in at an angle or it will look wierd. :icon14:

spohn, how did you remove the factory ''plate'' on the front bumper to put the mesh??
is it just clips holding them??

I removed the plastic grill slats for a cleaner look IMO. But the mesh is held on by clips and some zip ties that you cant see which it's all described in my journal. you probably could install the mesh with the OEM grill slats if you wanted.
