370Z engine block same as GT-R?

Hi,

When I purchased my 370Z a few days ago, the dealer told me it's the same engine block as the GT-R, but fitter with 2 turbos in the GT-R. That definitely didn't make me buy it, but I was just wondering if this was true?!
Any other technical relations between the 370Z and GT-R?
Thanks!

370z - VQ37VHR
R35 GT-R - VR38DETT

Well I'm very new to this, and mostly the whole Nissan world... But I presume your answer means the dealer told me something totally false?

Shockingly, it seems your dealer tried to mislead you.

What a change... ;-)
Then again, I just heard noise coming from his mouth but I mostly heard brilliant sound coming out of the 370Z :-)
So happy with the car!!

The original castings for the 2 blocks probably started off very similar but go through a very different production process. They have the same bore and bore spacing but the VR38DETT is lined (using Ford's PTWA process) and pretty much everything else about the engines is different (crank, rods, pistons, heads etc).

Other than the space for twin turbos; does the GTR's engine (block, heads, intake, etc.) spec out length/width,height)?

Yes the basic block dimensions are the same (if that is what you were asking).

Well to be fair Ford designed and patented the technology but Nissan was the first to actually use it in production :p

Well that's just the smart thing to do... own the patent and license the beta testing to someone else. :p

FWIW, the GT500 is the second car to use it in production. I'm sure Ford had the Nissan engineers report back on how it was working out for them. My NISMO 5.0 doesn't seem too far fetched now, does it? :happydance::icon17:

And note that in OZ at least, an R35 GTR engine is "lifed" and needs to be returned to the dealer to have the engine removed, stripped and the bore re-treated by Nissan .. not sure of the time limit, but I beleive it is 160,000klms.

What price for change-over engine ......

DOOMMONKEY777 01-05-2012 12:18 PM

LMAO well id say 35,000 for the VR38DETT not shure if the turbos come w/ it plus the work arownd 3,000k..........well now yor looking at GTM twin turbo kits arent you??
