Forget the Spring: The Real Solution To Clutch Pedal
Hey Guys,
So a lot of us 6mt guys have been complaining about the OEM clutch pedal feel. The engagement level is too high, the engagement window is too short, and the pedal is somewhat stiff. It makes the car very difficult to drive smooth, even after years of experience. If you have a stiff aftermarket clutch let me (OS Giken), you can forget about it. The clutch is an on off switch. In my research for a solution, I finally came across a company/individual that has redesigned the clutch pedal for the G35 and 350z. "The main feature of the clutch pedal kits is the AFP Slider. It directly adjusts the fulcrum point of the pedal arm, changing the amount of leverage it has over the master cylinder. As you know if you grab a longer handled ratchet like a torque wrench you can apply a huge force at the bolt with very little force at the end of the handle. Same principle applies here. Shorten the fulcrum and it increases the leverage the pedal has to push the MasterCylinder which in turn actuates the clutch diaphragm. This same principle makes the window of engagement wider by reducing the total travel of the master cylinder while maintaining the same travel of the pedal. This makes the clutch pedal feel less sensitive or touchy and makes the car much easier to drive smoothly." The reviews for G35 and 350z have been extremely positive. This modification increases the engagement window, lowers the engagement point, and can decrease the pedal pressure. But everything is adjustable. You can find reviews here: Review of RJM adjustable clutch pedal bracket - MY350Z.COM Forums New G & Z Clutch Mod - Long Read - Page 4 - MY350Z.COM Forums Review of RJM Performance adjustable clutch pedal bracket - G35Driver RJM Performance adjustable clutch pedal bracket review - G35Driver This is what the G35 kit looks like: Here is the link to the product: Products - *RJM Performance.com The kit is not released for G37/370z yet, but if you're interested to be one of the first group of "testers" to get this kit, there will be a slight discount. Send an email to Ryan@RJMPerformance.com, and he will add you to the list. I have no affiliation with the company, I just wanted to pass the good news along. I've been sick and tired of the poor drivability of my clutch and finally found the solution.

Quote:
"The Mod brackets reduce the total slave cylinder movement for any given pedal travel to increase the engagement window. The lowest AFP setting is 100% the same as stock so there is 100% no chance of ever over extending the CSC and popping the seals." In other words, with the clutch pedal kit, it'll only push the CSC as far as the OEM pedal did. It will only decrease the amount of CSC travel, it will NOT increase it.

Wait, this is available from Canada, thats a first!
Once I see some reviews on the driveability in the 370 then I will jump on this. This mod, with a short shift kit and performance transmission mounts would be a great combo. EDIT: I just placed my order. Last edited by Shotta; 07-04-2012 at 10:58 PM. |
