Default Clutch Decisions for Track

Due to some circumstances I've decided to change my clutch and flywheel out. Plus the CSC. But that's for another topic. Any recommendations? But first my plans are for a not just a good clutch but a great clutch for the track. Something much better than stock. I also don't want the stock feel of the clutch. I want something stiffer. So I was thinking a 6 puck design. The flywheel Im not so worried about. That's a easy decision. Nothing crazy priced such as a OS Giken. Most as priced the same just wondering about clutch design and behavior. Opinions anyone? Remember more track orientated than street able. But not over the top.

I don't know. My opinion and experience, for what its worth, is the stock clutch is fine for road racing. Drag strip and launching is a whole different animal, but with proper heel-toe, you really aren't stressing the clutch that much.

Yea I believe the stock is more than ok. I just would feel better with something a little better along with a stiffer feel. I also talk to John yesterday and he said there didn't change out you CSC. It was only your clutch. I still feel that the CSC is my issue. But time will tell.

Personally I have very little track experience on my clutch/flywheel setup but lots of street time.

I would recommend the Southbend clutches and flywheel combination with the CSC HD upgrade. Talk to Joe @ Z Speed Performance for his recommendations.

I have the Stage 3 clutch and the billet flywheel, stock CSC and bearing sleeve. Plus I've drilled out the copper orifice block and put a longer than stock stainless clutch line and triple insulated it. This moves the clutch line closer to the body and more away from the hot exhaust piping. More insulation helps too.

The feel of the clutch is solid but not too hard for everyday use. I haven't replaced the stock CSC yet as it's still working well and if it ain't broke ..... but I do have a upgraded CSC on stand-by.

I think this will be a perfect solution for your track duties and the fact that your continuously working the clutch CSC with your heel and toe routine.
A lighter pressure plate on a stage 1 or 2 might be a better choice for the track.

Some thoughts that may be wrong or not

A heavier flywheel will keep the RPM's up longer than a lighter flywheel plus take the heat a lot better. Bonus: no rattles

You might consider a clutch fluid cooler to help with the temps

Thanks for all the suggestions. I really want to go with a heavier duty CSC. But I have been told of even one of these failing. Do they offer any type of warranty on that? I'll give them a call. I have several things to work out and I'm not jumping the gun. Especially to a sales pitch. Shops are so eager these days.

Completely understandable from the sales pitch point of view. I just found that Joe spoke my language and had a good answer to each one of my questions and problems I experienced in the past with the issues I had with previous clutch setups.

I believe with anything mechanical, any type of failure is possible with a production item. It's just a pain in wallet when it's time to remove a transmission, just to replace a CSC.

Plus I believe the HD CSC offered by Z Speed Performance is the only best option out there for a CSC replacement, at this time.

chris, i've driven several cars with 6 puck clutches, they are very ornery on the road, especially taking off. that might be a little aggressive unless you are planning to go forced induction sometime soon. i think this would suit ya just fine:

Z1 370Z / G37 Clutch and Flywheel combo

I'm most likely going to use the HD CSC. Got to do something that's going to be a step up over the OEM. Especially with a clutch that's going to have more clamping force.

Looking forward to see what you go with

I went with the southbend TZR clutch, CSC and the ACT flywheel.
