complete engine overhaul questions.
assuming i still own my Z in the near future thanks to the economy, and i get into the army as planned :P i have a few questions.
first, im looking at not just blindly putting a turbo or a SC on the car like a tard to get instant gratification power. that being said, im talking cam, heads, pistons, crank, rods, lifters, everything. and a bore. probably to 4.5 if the stock block will take it. but theres an issue. MOST if not all of the parts i manage to locate for example on GTM site are mostly for the 350z engine. Now, do any of you know of where i can get all these parts LIKE the stage 3-5 engine components for the 350 offered by GTM, but for the 370 specifically. Is anyone even making them yet? My goal is to make this engine produce roughly 500 WHP without using any forced induction. which shouldnt be to hard IF the parts even exist. I just dont know where to look. and i refuse to buy a built 4.5L stoker for 20k, not because of price.... but because then i would have MY oem engine left to deal with, which IMO is more then capable of producing IDENTICAL results. Secondly, what kind of clutch system works best in the 370, and what would work best for my needs? i looked on GTM and theres like 20 different kinds..... single, double, tripple, quad, w,w/o damper, and a million other options that i dont fully understand. im not making a 1k WHP car, 500 to the wheels in the goal.... so an explanation of the different clutch systems and what they even do would be cool too :P I was always an American muscle kinda guy prior to my nismo, and its EASY to get an old 401 or 350 or whatever manufacture you are into, and just buy the parts, install them, and make massive power with minimal fuss. same goes for transmissions and rear ends. i dont see why this should be any different. with 9500$ you could make a amc 360 motor pump out 850WHP. Any help/info would be appreciated. thanks guys. |

Since i am the only one who has actually gone mad crazy with this platform I have this to say. Making a hi revving 500rwhp engine is going to be near impossible! Your budget better be about $35k for a full plug and play motor that can make 400hp+. All the packages available for the 350 platform from gtm is avaioable for the 370z platform. Turbo/sc is the cheaper solution as well as a built short block for under $10k

so you don't know the difference between, a single and double plate clutch but somehow you are going to build a 500rwhp NA 370z?

Small block chevy! Not like it hasn't been done before in a Z.

But it's the way to go when you want N/A power in just about any platform. It just works!

I can kinda understand where the op is coming from. I use to deal in older muscle cars my self, so yes it would come across as simple. Yes we do have the technology to add big cubic inches and intake runners and valves and such, but the technology on the ecu and vvel is not there. Think about it though. If we can make almost 350 rwhp with bolt ons why couldnt we make almost 500 with 4.5 liter stroker. I believe that we could if there was a way to get more air to the engine via the intake side of things. If we cant change the vvel or the cam the only other thing that could be changed would be the essentric part of the valve train (part of valve train that actually makes contact with the valve steem). With new pistons, clearance wouldnt be a problem and you could controll the duration and lift with one single part. Once again it would cost alot just to test out a theory.
