I'm a little concerned about street behavior. Dropping a 20 lbs. will drastically change the rotational inertia of the flywheel.
|
Yes it will change the inertia of the flywheel, you are correct.
Usually you have to get up more revs before you engage the clutch to prevent stalling it. But its not all too bad, you just get to relearn your clutch. The lower the flywheel inertia will allow downshifts to be smoother since the engine will rev more quickly. Also upshifts will be smoother since the engine will derev more quickly to the proper RPM. On my old set up shifts came lightning quick as the clutch engagement was pretty much immiediate. Heel toe'in was a breeze too. I can't wait to try it with S-mode...it should make our synchro-rev match work a whole lot better. |
I wonder if our clutch is still 2-piece, and I wonder if it's the culprit of the rattling clunking noise. I know the throwout bearing makes noise after a few hundred miles.
I've never had an aftermarket clutch (6 years with 350Z never replaced), but it would be nice to improve things here and there (slave cylinder, fluid, lines, etc.?) |
I had the JWT clutch and flywheel installed this week... fits... haven't had it down from the lift for test drive yet, lots of other stuff going on... can follow on my journal... will update on results there next week and perhaps here as well

See my journal... I have the JWT flywheel and clutch in now... no adverse effects... overall, I'd say it is easier to shift gears (clutch pedal force), engagement points in clutch pedal stroke are more natural to me, SRM works PERFECTLY with the setup, and the thing revs up and down like a MF'er ! With the b&m shift kit as well, I'm more confident and faster shifting, no over-revs between up shifts that i've noticed, and I can go on... I'm very pleased so far and tentatively recommend both!! I'll strike the tentative after I've had it in for a few weeks and a track day or two
