Differential bushing

Well, my diff bushing has given up on me.. wondering if anyone has changed theirs and to what? I'm debating whether to take it in to the dealer under warranty or upgrading to a better one.

Go oem. Everything else will have more nvh, or break. Went through that with my g20 pos and finally I just take it to the dealer for parts always and labor when special tools are needed and I can't do it myself. It's just better that way I have found, if more expensive.

KaienZ34 10-30-2011 08:37 PM

How many miles do you have on your g37??

6mtg37s 10-30-2011 09:23 PM

almost 18k

6mtg37s 10-30-2011 09:26 PM

Hm, couldn't find anything else, guess oem is the only way, just wish it wasn't so weak

You should be able to get it under warranty, then later when something better comes out you can look into it.

11Thumper 10-31-2011 02:28 AM

Warranty is free no?

Is this a common issue?

tranceformer 10-31-2011 06:30 AM

welcome to the club!

is your G a daily driver? if it is, then i would have to say just get it covered under warranty. it seems like fairly common problem if you tend to drive your Z/G hard.

fuct 10-31-2011 04:08 PM

i had mine replaced under warranty. they replace the entire sub frame. id hate to know the price out of warranty!!

p.s. i dont drive my car very hard and mine busted.....

Yea it is, I called up the dealer, its going in tomorrow. I guess the cars aren't ment to be driven hard??

Yup, same problem here. I hate how you can't just replace the bushing!

That's funny :icon18:

fuct 11-01-2011 08:34 AM

im hoping this is just a fluke in the production line and not an issue with using slightly stiffer suspension. i have tein springs that are a tad tighter. if so then im sure many others will have this problem too. our roads here suck and i might have just hit one too many BAD bumps and it broke. im hesitant to think the dealer would fix this twice..... :\

I don't think the Tein springs would have much effect on the bushing. IMO, high HP levels, hard launches and shifts would hurt the bushing far more than anything else. I've had a few friends with 350Z's break theirs and a few friends down here in FL do the same with their 370Z's. It seems to be common with both cars.

I contacted SPL about this. With some work/swearing the 350Z SPL bushings can be adapted to the 370Z/G37. They also mentioned that they will be releasing a set that fits the 370Z/G37 soon.

With that said, the SPL bushings are LOUD. Especially if you have a set of 4.08 gears, and/or a Nismo LSD. The 4.08 gears might whine a bit more than the stock gears, and this is magnified by the solid bushings. The Nismo LSD is a bit harsh to begin with, makes lots of noise when making slow tight turns (read: parking lot). This is also magnified by the solid diff bushings.

I would NOT recommend these for a daily driven car. But constantly breaking a stock bushing would also be irritating. Maybe some day someone can source/manufacture a solid rubber bushing.

SPOHN 11-01-2011 06:47 PM

Sub

6mtg37s 11-01-2011 06:56 PM

So warranty decided not to cover it since i have aftermarket toe bolts. Somehow they wrote that the toe bolts may have caused this and that the subframe which needs to be changed for the bushing also includes the toe bolt area, which connects to the bottom spring tray. These mechanics are just something else..

6mtg37s 11-01-2011 06:56 PM

We need someone to make aftermarket polyurathane ones! SPL is too much for DD cars.

In progress :) My Nismo is the 3rd test car!
They are urethane bushings with an aluminum sleeve.

The bushings are not replaceable with Nissan parts. Dealership sells as an assembly, no bushing alone.

tranceformer 11-02-2011 09:42 PM

I wish I knew about the urethane bushings a few weeks ago but oh well.

The stock bushing is a major PITA to remove. Installing a replacement bushing is PITA as well. Just got my Z back with SPL aluminum bushings, a review thread soon to follow.

i would wait. mine isn't a daily driver so different story for me. the extra rubber padding helped though.

SPOHN 11-03-2011 07:09 AM

I'll have to do this before my next alignment

M.Bonanni 11-03-2011 11:19 PM

Whiteline ones should be for sale in the US end of November...

6mtg37s 11-04-2011 04:04 AM

For the 370z/g37 tho right? I saw on there site but it was only for 350z/g35.

M.Bonanni 11-04-2011 07:32 PM

Any information??

M.Bonanni 01-17-2012 11:28 AM

I will ask. I was told the 350Z bushings would fit the 370Z and they have announced the release of the product but they don't mention it fitting the 370Z/G37 only the 350Z/G35 so now I'm confused.

M.Bonanni 01-17-2012 01:53 PM

Alright, just talked to someone at Whiteline, the 350Z ones they just released WILL NOT fit on the 370Z. No official word yet on the release of 370Z specific ones. :(

tranceformer 01-17-2012 02:08 PM

I'm sure they can modified to fit our cars.

DIGItonium 02-09-2012 08:50 AM

Man... I'm itching to get these bushings when they become available. The 1-2 shift wheel hop under boost makes it difficult to get much traction.

I'd like to use a product like this in conjunction with the bushings:
Sound Performance – Blog Blog Archive SP 350z/G35 Differential Brace

hazzazi 02-09-2012 09:25 AM

i have the same thing shown on my differential... and i was told by the dealer thats normal if you drive your car hard.. and that i don't need it to be replaced.

also, i'm alrdy out of warrenty... i think i alrdy drove over 10k miles on it, and it drives fine, but should i be worried??

i dont see how a broken bushing leaking fluid it needs to perform its job properly would be considered normal.....

i could feel a major stiffness increase once mine was fixed. i couldnt tel you how long it was busted, but i sure knew when the new one went in. just sayin

I could definitely feel it when the bushing was broken. Especially on a really hard 1-2 shift. Not sure how much the diff housing would move with the broken bushing but sometimes it felt like the stud on the rear cover was hitting something on hard shifts. That can't be good.
