Not sure whats wrong. Help please!
I have a 6 speed 2009 370z with 30,000 miles on it. Just recently i have noticed that the clutch seems to be slipping. I will be coasting on the interstate at 70, gas it, it revs up doesn't accelerate, but then the revs drop back down and then catches. My car seems much slower, but i am 18 and dont quite know how to diagnose this issue. If i could get some advice i would appreciate it.
Thanks, Tward

you most likely burned up all of your clutch. Have it replaced and good to go! but damn, 30,000 miles and clutch is already fried? Use your clutch more wisely!

Yea its my first manual car, but i got it used with 24000 miles on it so the previous driver may have not been too good, i dont know though. Do you think they will charge to inspect my car and find out whats wrong?

Depends... if they have to rip it apart they will but if they just test drive it then prob not. Best way to find out is to ask. They won't do any billable work without disclosing it first (unless you tell them not to).

Okay thanks. Do you guys have any recommendations on aftermarket clutches and flywheels?

Most places wont charge for inspection. They'll check by just simply driving your car. And swapping out the clutch doesnt cost much time or money either....at least for my s2k. Btw, cant your warranty cover this?

haha warranty covering a clutch. No chance in hell be prepared for about 850 in repairs for it make sure they quote you first in paper and hold them to it.

I went to get a quote on it today, and they are going to charge me $1350 for parts and labor, and i am not sure if that includes the flywheel or just clutch.
Is there a benefit of an OEM clutch over aftermarket? If not what aftermarket clutch would be good?

Quote:
If you go aftermarket you are going to have a change in engagement/pedal feel and the dealership def won't cover (hell they may not even install). I personally would stick with OEM if you aren't making some serious TQ but that is just my opinion. Otherwise you may end up with a clutch that has a overly sharp engagement and less forgiveness (especially if there is a chance that you aren't driving it 100% properly). |

the dealer quote will include the clutch and pressure plate as well as a new CSC(slave cylinder/throwout bearing) as well as 6 hours of labor at 100/hour(which is stupid)

Yea I am not sure what to do right now. I am going to get another quote from a different Nissan Dealership to see if i get a better deal, but I doubt it will be much different.
So are you guys saying to buy the OEM clutch, but just have it installed a local shop that wont charge as much for labor?

Yes OEM clutch is good!
Definitely no on any auto parts store clutch! OK to go with good aftermarket brand. No point unless you go with an extreme setup though. You probably won't like it unless your going to add a bunch of HP. |
