Starter problems anyone??
Just put in a new battery and gosh my car barely starts up still. Anyone have starter wire problems yet?
|
You sure the battery is good? All connections tight? Does it crank and not turn over right away? What are the symptoms?
|
Agreed... re-tighten the terminals and make sure you bought the correct battery.
|
Also can I ask why you already bought a new battery after only 2 years?
|
Car is 2.5 years old with 34k miles and battery needed replacing.
Just won't turn over. Literally almost dies then comes back to life lol. Makes my stomach drop every time lol |
If it cranks weakly but won't turn over that sounds like weak battery or bad connection at terminals.
If you just hear click-click when you try and start, but no cranking, that could mean a bad soleniod on the starter -- if so, you might still be just barely under warranty for it. If it turns over and runs, but then splutters out and dies, that's something else althogether (bad vac leak, for example). Can you get a voltage readout on the dash gauge? |
Yea once it cranks it's running at normal at just over 14 volts without AC and my audio system cranking. It's more of a sputter that almost dies then comes back to life. Doesn't happen every single time but a lot of the time. Any precautions I should take tightening the terminals or other advice before I drag it into the dealership

Didn't even think about this but it's gotta be when the car get low on gas. That's why it's intermittent. I just filled up last night then drove home and started this thread. Woke up this morning, terminals were tight and fine so I started her up and vroom it was instantaneous, none of that weak sputtery business. For some reason I guess my car or our cars might not respond well when turning over if the gas tank is less than a quarter tank.....hmm

Also some ideas....1) if you have a aftermarket stereo and don't have a capacitor kit, it will cause your battery to die hell-a-fast!!!. 2) make sure your cold cranking amps are atleast factory battery quality. Normally getting a new battery your cca's are about 30-40 higher than factory battery. and 3) maybe clogged fuel filter? Just some ideas.

Sounds like voltage drop issues from the battery to the starter. Check those cables and connections first. Remember, the engine runs off the alternator (mostly) when it's started (so you won't see any issues once it's running).

Mine just did this to.any ideas what to do.
