Default revs high when in neutral... sometimes

last couple of weeks i've been noticing my car revving itself when in neutral and stopped at a red light. slowly revs up to 2K and then drops, slowly. nothing else unusual, oil temps in normal operating range. any suggestions?

get your car checked up....i know the AC makes the revs go up a little but not up to 2k. could be something wrong with SRM.

Could be the IAC is sticking. I don't know if these cars have an IAC, but it sounds like it does and it's sluggish to move once the A/C kicks off.

do you have Smode on? It happens to me sometimes when I approach the light and I just put it into neutral and it revs alittle thinking i might downshift

That is what I was thinking... had this happen in one of my previous cars.

i know what you're thinking, but not the case. i can be at a complete stop in neutral when it slowly starts to rev to 2K. also happens with s-mode off.

Mine has done this before too, not in s mode. Usually when sitting still in neutral. A exhaust leak or air leak of some sort could maybe cause it.

I know the car does that on cold starts (accelerate warm up). I guess if it does it when your motor is warm, you got a problemo.

It's very likely a vaccuum leak (like the IAC valve)... it will drive just about normal except the idle which is because it is letting in more air than the throttle is requesting which causes the same symptom as putting your foot on the accelerator.

We don't have one. Our cars have electronic throttle bodies thus it is no longer needed.

It can be a sticky (or dirty contacts) on the electronic pedal. You can drive around with a ODB-II scanner connected and log the pedal position and throttle position data to see if that is the case.

Sorry to bump an old thread. Does anyone have any updates on this problem? The problem occurs not only in neutral but the car will cruise in any gear at around 1600 rpm without me depressing the gas... Sometimes when in neutral ill tap the accelerator and the rpm will drop to normal. Really strange

also: this doesnt happen all the time. Only random days
