that's from the magnet on the drainplug

I wiped off some hard materials off the magnet

spearfish has a nice write up on how to do it if you can't figure it out

This was a very common thing on the Evo X as well ... ALWAYS a ton of metal on those plugs after the first change. I changed mine at 2500 miles on my X when I had it, but it didn't look to bad.

How's the shifting since you changed out the fluid? Smoother I would imagine?

People always laugh at you when you point this one out, but it's critical, and the z is very prone to cooking the diff.

What mileage was this taken at? What did you end up putting in as replacement for the diff fluid?

this is my 6th sports car that i tracked. as far as i can remember, this is the worst by far, this includes my 350 which i assume have the same setup?

i used amsoil 75w90. 1.5 qtr came out, nearly 2 quarts went in. the job is much easier to do than the tranny. i plan to do it every other oil change at this point

i dont expect the car to drive any differfent, i just want to protect the diff. i did change the tranny fluid, that made a huge difference in the shifting as it took away 90% of the notch

i only have 13k miles, but it does have a good amount of track days and autox on it, but i dont abuse it when i daily drive it. i was very concerned that the build up were hard metal pieces and not sludge

I've seen this before on our cars. I'd believe this is also metal shavings. But not sure what is considered appropriate for there has to be a level considered for this.

I plan to change mine ever other oil change being I have a LSD. OS Giken recommends every 15K miles but I feel that's to long. Especially now that I'm starting to track. The OS Giken is post to run a little lower temps but I don't see it doing that on our cars but it might though. I'll end up changing my diff fluid after my next track day and I'll post my results. At the moment I have put 4K miles on mine and one track day.

technically amsoil says their 75w90 can go 100k miles, but i will redrain my oil in 6000 miles and plan accordingly. it could very well be the crappy oil nissan uses

my first drail the oil was really murky and filthy as well.

but my second one, after track days and 3 mountain cruises and about 14k miles was still quite clean.

I am using redline though.
