Limited Slip Diff
 

I'm sorry if this has already been discussed but would someone please elaborate on the limited slip diff provided from the sport package. I am wondering if this is a must've.

so far i haven't had one tire spin like an open diff so my conclusion is yes, it's needed.

but real LSD is even better.

Stock diff is viscous...meaning, it will help you on snow, but if you drive hard enough to need it, it will overheat and function as an open diff

This. A real LSD would definitely be an upgrade but it is better than an open diff.

The sport LSD is pretty miserable, particularly exiting slow turns onto fast straights. It hasn't been a big problem on HPDE track days, but some autoX courses make its weaknesses painfully obvious.

I have a OS Giken and I LOVE IT. Still my best mod to date. It gives me so much confindence when exiting a turn. I feel I can give it so much more throttle while applying it much sooner and remain in complete control. It delivers power so equally to both rear tires. It's defiantly a miracle worker. Even when braking.

Is that the reason why my car fishtails when I brake sometimes?

Do you have a base model or sport? When I brake hard the LSD locks at 50% briefly but it's always in control for it does this evenly with both sides. So I assume with a open diff or even a the VLSD this could happen. I never tested that out before hand.

The Vlsd shouldnt be a determining factor on the sport package. Brakes and rims are cool, but the Vlsd is garbage (and this is not z-specific, all Vlsd's are). Anyone who needs an LSD will replace it almost immediately.

Exactly. If you occasionally need it, it's better than an open diff. At least until the oil breaks down.

If you need it more than occasionally, it's going to get hot and not act like a diff.

It has nothing to do with the Z and everything to do with how a VLSD works. If you are on a track (or AutoX) you want a real limited slip diff.
