4.08 gears cruising RPM - video
For all that are curious... I know I was before I got my gears installed and couldn't find anything. Sorry for crap quality. Taken, edited, uploaded and posted her fom my iPhone. I can do additional videos upon request. Wanted to do a 1st through 3rd gear pull but couldn't keep traction in 1st or 2nd tonight... Chilly out.
Enjoy! 370Z 4.08 Gears Cruising RPM - YouTube PS. 4.08 gears and jwt flywheel are definitely worth it. PSS. Berk CBE with Berk HFC has little bit of rasp ... Sounds great otherwise.

Also, video starts at 75mph, goes to 80, 85 then 90 at end.

Seems to be pretty reasonable at cruise.
4.08s on this car are like running the 4.55s on an s...wakes the car up so much, and makes it so much better to drive. |

Have you noticed any change in gas mileage?
Also, what rpm do you usually shift at during normal driving? I usually shift around 3k-3.5k in every gear. Do you shift higher with the 4.08s? |

It shortens the final drive ratio for the car. IIRC, the Z has a 3.69 final drive ratio from the factory. Moving to a 4.08 gears the car roughly 10% shorter, requiring more revs to maintain the same speed.
The benefit to this is bringing the car into the powerband much quicker, making it feel much peppier and "ready-to-go" It's pretty nice on a lot of road courses because it will let you spend more time in 3rd gear without needing a downshift to 2nd. I think there is a lot of information available if you google it, but I'm happy to answer any specific questions you have on it. |

With my 3:90 gears, I shift at 2,000rpm to 2,400rpm. Not only does it drive fine, but the wear on enginge is much less than shifting at higher rpm. A car with 100k mileage that was shifted at 3,500rpm is not in the same condition as one that was shifted at 2,500rpm. A human heart gets stronger when excersized(higher pulse rate) an engine get weaker......sorry

Trying to decide which final drive would be best. I have a bone stock 09 370 nismo, that i plan on boosting with the gtm TT kit. This kit alone will give me approx 500whp. However, i want to do gears first. Any thoughts on this Dilemma?

You'd have significantly increased traction issues with the shorter 4.08 gears. If I were in the market for shorter gears, I would try the 3.9 although I think most people find the stock gearing of the car is best for FI cars to maintain as much traction as possible.

Since switching to the 4.08 gears, I lost about 2 or 3 MPG (highway) at most.
