mobile 1 oil... is it that bad?

ok so i have always used mobile 1 in my cars forever. however i just ran across a couple threads saying it wasnt good for our motors since it was non ester based oil.

1) why doesnt nissan mention this in the manual. it says use "synthetic oil".

2) my other question is, should i just finish off my 3000 miles with this oil and switch to redline or should i look to get this outta my car as soon as possible. i guess what im askin, is running one 3000 mile cycle on mobile 1 gonna do any damage or cause any more valvetrain noise?

Search more. Plenty of oil threads and differing opinions regarding Mobil 1 and ester based oils.

searching is what has led me to starting this thread. seems like some people swear it will ruin your motor, while some say it runs great on these 3.7's. im more comfused after searching than i was before. before i wouldnt have given mobile 1's credibility a second thought

thats the only thing nissan wants you to ever run in the GTR...so you know ive been using it for 3 years now... dont see why it would be different or worse for the Z

there has to be some secret society of auto engineers hidden here somewhere to tell me wtf is goin on with this mystery mobile 1 issue that apperently only the nissan community has stumbled upon...

i just wanna make sure we arent making something outta nothing..

For what it's worth, I run Mobil 1 and car is doing fine. No way Mobil 1 is gonna "ruin" your engine. Also no reason to believe that Nissan's magic Ester oil is any better then a top tier synthetic.

I've used Mobil 1 in my cars based on the fact its the 'Official Motor Oil' of about 80% of racing... If it's good enough for them, it's good enough for me.

I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express during the EMCO Gears Classic and those rat bastages wouldn't let me drive in the race.

OP. The "importance" of oil is waaaaaay overplayed. I use Mobil 1 and have for awhile. The worst thing involved with oil is not changing it. And if I'm not mistaken, M1 does have esters in it. Also, do you really believe that Nissan makes their own oil? Let me answer that...NO.
