I had a feeling from day 1 they weren't sure how to install the gears... Should've went with my gut on that one, but at the same te they shouldn't have accepted the job. Being who they are and the name they represent, I had confidence in them.

I agree. They should foot the bill for the parts and someone else to do the swap. Are they a shop on this forum ?

you can try switching to a heavier weight transmission fluid, and also over filling a bit. it won't hurt as the gear case is not pressurized. As the transmission fluid warms up the oil thins out and the output shaft gets noisier, that fidanza/jwt flywheel will get louder.

Sorry to hear about your luck. I've had great luck with my 4.08 gears from Baker Tuning. I have a feeling I know the shop your talking about as I asked them about doing my gears and they straight up told me that they had never done a set and would just follow all data during the install. There's a lot more to installing gears than reading some directions.

You drove all the way up to Houston to have them installed? How long did it take them?
I hope everything goes well tomorrow. I'm nervous they are going to not want to help as much as I expect them to.

Update: Shop is owning up to it. Right when i walked in the front door the guy at the front said "I just heard." So they know they messed up.
Here was his excuse on why it happened... Just after everything was installed the car went on the dyno. They are blaming the failure of the rear diff on an improper break-in. They said the car needs to have (3) 10 - 12 mile cycles of warming up the diff and cooling down. To me it sounds like BS... so who knows. All i know is they are going to fix it and come out of pocket for new seals, bearing and anything else needed to do it right. My only concerns is if there was a mistake in the installation... what's to say it's not going to happen again? I know i can just take the car back for a third time, but they've already had it since Wednesday of last week when there was only supposed to be 12 hours of labor to be done. So frustrated...

Never was a fan of lightened flywheels... had one in my old 4 banger (installed myself in my driveway with no issue btw so a pro schouldn't have any of those issues) and as the other person said, you simply give up too much on the low end and I never noticed any benefit other than faster revs. You almost have to launch the car to get it rolling normally (again it was a 4 banger with almost 1/3 the HP but still).
Good luck with your fix, I know that is frustrating as hell especially with your (probably correct) notion that they are going to do the bare minimum to get this fixed. |
