Default Clutch problems

Has anyone else had a clutch problem? Mine went completely out after 19,850 miles. I don't grind gears. I baby the car. I've driven a stick for years and know how to drive a standard. So it's not like I'm a kid learning how to drive a stick for the first time. It's in the shop with Nissan North America deciding if it's my fault.

That's like trying to diagnose a problem over the phone.... not enough information to comment one way or the other.

What do you mean "went completely out"? What needed to be replaced? what were the symptoms?

A clutch should last quite a long time, even with spirited driving. Since you've been driving stick for a while it sounds like you wouldn't be slipping the clutch too much. How long have the clutches lasted in your other vehicles?

The Nissan clutches are pretty weak. Mine is starting to slip occasionally on the 4-5 shift if I'm too quick. Granted I'm pretty hard on the car but I don't slip the clutch. Even the 6-speed Maxima's have a reputation for wearing them out fast.

I bought the car new with 10 miles on it. My 350z's clutch went out after 60,000 plus miles. The clutch would eventually not allow the stick to go into any gear. Nissan North America is at least paying to have the transmission taken off to see what the problem is. When I first got the car it would jump in 1st gear. I have to give it a lot of gas to drive smoothly out of that gear. All the other gears are smooth. By the time I got it to the dealer the clutch was to the floor with and not coming up.

Just recently I burned my clutch out. I have had 4 manual transmissions and never killed a clutch before. I have 24K miles on my 09'. Yes I drive her how she is supposed to be driven.... hard.... but not "get a brand new clutch at 24K miles hard" .... Here's what happened:

Hard launch >>> 1st >>> 2nd >>> shift into 3rd at 7400k RPM and no clutch engagement... foot completely off the pedal... bounced the rev limiter with the clutch spinning, half engaged for 2 secs and then finally gained pressure and then grabbed.... then 15-30 min of TERRIBLE burning smell. Something went very, very wrong...my clutch immediately felt like 50K miles was put on it.

I read about the CSS failures and thought 'maybe' something went wrong there... but my symptoms were not the same. (my clutch pedal was fully up, not like the guys that had theirs stick to the floor) I was not sure if I should bring it to Nissan because I didn't really think they would believe my story. After being really bummed for like a week... and getting slippage... I decided to just bite the bullet and take it in to Tustin Nissan in OC. Fully prepared to get absolutely owned by the price of an OEM clutch installed at a dealer.

They listened to what happened, took her apart, and 3 days later they told me they couldn't find any malfunctioning part. All they had was my story, a burned out clutch and a warped flywheel. *&(#$& not good...

Then he surprised me by saying... "Don't worry, I got it approved and Nissan is covering it." ....omg was that a relief!!! I'm pretty sure this was a rare incident... but I am very pleased with the service and support Tustin Nissan provided. Walked out paying $0.

When I went to pick up my car, I looked at the paperwork to see how much it would have cost me..... close to $1,800 for new flywheel, pressure plates, and disc....holy &#$%... lol

So I now have a 370z with 24K miles and a brand new OEM clutch and flywheel. (they also fixed my fuel gauge sensors, I never saw the last dot when I filled my tank)

I wish you the best of luck with your diagnostic!

It's always nice to hear a Nissan dealer taking care of a customer. It doesn't happen as often as it should, but it's great when it does.

I'm currently having the same problem, my car rolled over 27k and my clutch slipped shifting from 1st to 2nd. I also bounced the rev limiter too when it slipped and the pedal wouldn't come back up! This is my 4th standard tranny car so it's nuthin new to me. The first civic I bought was a manual and the first time I drove a manual was when I test drove that civic. The car sales man wasn't amused btw!

I'm also on my stock tires still after 27k so Thats a good indicator to the fact that Im not burning out at every stop light. I'm also about due for my first break pad change, I commute to work so my car has spent practically all of it's life crusin the freeway.

There are 2 Nissan dealerships within 20 miles of me so I hope I'm lucky enough to not have to pay outta pocket, like the op said "all I have is my story" so we'll see...

Default Clutch

Yes,I bought the car new. It turns out that the clutch cylinder leaked into the clutch. So Nissan North America did pay for the clutch. It just seems like it doesn't seat into the gears as easy as it did before the problem.

it says in the manual the CSC must be replaced with every clutch change. granted it should take 50-75k miles before you need a normal clutch change.

I know there is probably a newer thread for this but I am having a very similar issue. This isn't my first stick shift. And I wasn't sure exactly the problem was until today when my z almost wouldn't start. It acted as if the clutch wasn't engaged yet it was all the way too the floor.

It is a 2009 and I am at about 208xx miles. There shouldn't be any reason why this s happening. I do drive the car hard but not ever where I go. A couple times a week I get on it. Never slipped and not often missed a gear. Haven't burn the clutch at all since I have owned it.

It is now getting to the point where at least once a day it will have trouble going into gear sometimes even grinding. Could this be the same issue?
