Yes, that sounds like the clutch is done.

Is this something Nissan is going to turn me away for? I tried searching the forum but couldn't find much. My car is a 2010, I am praying they will replace it, but doubtful as this will likely fall under neglect.
Thanks for your response. |

This will not be a warranty repair. The clutch is considered normal wear and tear. You'll just have to be a little easier on the clutch for it to last longer.

Ah... how embarrassing this is. Alright, guess I better get my mechanic on the phone. Spoke to a Nissan tech (a friend) who told me it's just going to fall under a wear and tear. Any last advice on the best dollar clutch I can get installed? Thanks again. |

You're clutch is still engaging and not slipping so I'd say it still has some life left in it. Most likely you glazed the clutch a bit which will certainly shorten its life but you should gradually feel it start to come back to normal over the course of a couple of weeks.
I've had some success in the past with Nissan replacing a clutch under warranty if the miles are low. Wife burnt the clutch in my Maxima while I was away on a business trip because she couldn't find reverse and instead kept getting 6th. The car smelt awful for weeks.

I'm curious about this too. Sounds like some non-stop aggressive driving.

I honestly don't drive that aggressively at all.
My car has 5,000 miles on it (no track) ... I'd swear I was babying the hell out of this thing until last night. Then wham... Last edited by Shadax; 08-22-2011 at 12:30 PM. |

Only 5K miles?? That doesn't sound right. Maybe you can get this replaced under warranty.

Makes me wonder if it's really "done" then. You really have to abuse the hell out of the clutch to burn it out with 5k miles. I would drive it a bit to see if it comes back.

Yeah, I've seriously abused clutches for more than 5k miles and not had one burn up. I had to slip my clutch to the point of it SMOKING to get out of a river bed after my 4 wheel drive went out in my old Jeep, and that clutch was fine for the rest of the time I owned the Jeep.
Sounds like you need to practice your shifting : /
