Is my clutch gone?
Edit: Turns out it's fine.
|
Yes, that sounds like the clutch is done.

Thanks for your response. |
This will not be a warranty repair. The clutch is considered normal wear and tear. You'll just have to be a little easier on the clutch for it to last longer.
|
on a lighter note...your clutch is not "gone" lol its still there, just chooses not to work for you anymore! :icon17:

Ah... how embarrassing this is. Alright, guess I better get my mechanic on the phone. Spoke to a Nissan tech (a friend) who told me it's just going to fall under a wear and tear. Any last advice on the best dollar clutch I can get installed? Thanks again. |
How many miles/ track miles do you have on that clutch!? That is pretty crazy to burn a clutch that fast IMHO.
|
How the heck did you manage to burn the clutch so quickly?
|
You're clutch is still engaging and not slipping so I'd say it still has some life left in it. Most likely you glazed the clutch a bit which will certainly shorten its life but you should gradually feel it start to come back to normal over the course of a couple of weeks.
I've had some success in the past with Nissan replacing a clutch under warranty if the miles are low. Wife burnt the clutch in my Maxima while I was away on a business trip because she couldn't find reverse and instead kept getting 6th. The car smelt awful for weeks. |

I honestly don't drive that aggressively at all.
My car has 5,000 miles on it (no track) ... I'd swear I was babying the hell out of this thing until last night. Then wham... |
Only 5K miles?? That doesn't sound right. Maybe you can get this replaced under warranty.

Really appreciate all the replies on this!
I will follow up with what happens. Thanks again guys. |
Yeah, I've seriously abused clutches for more than 5k miles and not had one burn up. I had to slip my clutch to the point of it SMOKING to get out of a river bed after my 4 wheel drive went out in my old Jeep, and that clutch was fine for the rest of the time I owned the Jeep.
Sounds like you need to practice your shifting : / |

Honestly, I have never had this problem before of all MTs I've had. I'm not going to say I'm pro or anything, the criticism is definitely warranted. Do you think the helper spring could be working against me? I'm sure you saw the thread I'm referencing but: http://www.the370z.com/engine-drivet...er-spring.html What kind of tips can you give on some better shifting? |
First manual car? Maybe its your first import manual car as domestic clutches are much stiffer. I'd bother Nissan since you need a new clutch at 5K, can't hurt to try although you might get stuck with the diagnostic costs if they don't cover it. Then again if you are friends with the Nissan tech maybe it'll be free for that as well. Try not to have your clutch engaged for more than 15 seconds. Other than that, consider this a learning experience.

I've always had manual cars (until now) and never burned a clutch. I've driven all to 100k miles on the same clutch. Have dealer check might be something else (can't imagine what though)
