clutch ran away fro me?
ok, so this just happened today but i was sitting on a slight hill getting ready to go with clutch in and stick planted in 2nd gear. I got the rpms up just enough to get some friction going and then as i let out the clutch and try to get going the clutch pedal starts pulling in. i let off the gas for a few seconds and the clutch returned and seems to be working fine with no repeat of the problem even after doing the same thing multiple times except for the only difference being i was on flat ground for the other time. i'm still a little bit of a noob on the clutch on this car, but im assuming from now on it's just best to start off in 1st gear when on slight hills?

what would make yo want to start in 2nd on a hill?

Serious, 1st gear was designed for a reason use it |
lol, yeah i realize that now...no more second gear starts on hills for me...ever. should the clutch be ok though?

Also Don't ride the clutch since that reduces the life of the clutch. |
how often have you been strting off in second? if you dont feel the clutch slipping during normal driving id say its fine as long as you dont do it anymore. I
always start in 1st regardless of hill or incline. the only time i strted in 2nd was a mistake in traffic when i was having a conversation with my passenger. it went fine but that doesnt mean i would keep doing it. |

that was only the third time ever starting off in second, but all other time i have started off in 1st. clutch still seems nice and solid with no slippage. |
i wouldnt worry too much as long as the clutch isnt slipping.
|
thanks for the input guys, definitely no more starting off in second for me
|
i would not worry about starting off in second at all. My last car i would start off in second in snow conditions, because i wouldn't move otherwise. It was fine for years
|
yeah, but still i think i'll just be on the safe side and start off from 1st from now on lol
