Oil Cooler
 

After a weekend of spirited driving car went into limp mode fairly quickly, and temps stayed about 260 or so with mild driving, talked with dealership in which they say they will honor the warranty with this cooler as long as they install.

when you get it installed. But y do we gotta pay for this.

Will be sure to get in writing, and I agree with everyone we should not have to pay to make a so called performance car perform. Should have part installed next week.

I was under the impression that when a Nissan competiton part fails, the PART itself is not warrantied. I didn't think it affected the warranty of your car unless it could be proven that the part that failed was indeed the cause of the would be warranty repairs.

This might be a dumb question but say someone goes with an aftermarket oil cooler of their choice and something were to happen to the car and needed repair at the dealership, wouldn't it be easier just to take the oil cooler kit back off rather than dealing with having issues of them honoring the warranty? I also feel that Nissan sould have installed an oil cooler on the car from the get go and the one soon to be offered for us from Nissan will be a bit pricey. I save all my stock parts just in case something unexpected happens. It might be extra work but you gotta do what you gotta do right?

I live in central California. The air temps there are already hitting 105F. My oil temps with spirited driving around town where speeds were slow were up to 265F, but easily hitting 250F every day. I got the Stillen (Setrab) oil cooler for $425 and had Bakersfield Nissan install it, charging me 4 hours @ $90/hour. I had them do an oil change with ester oil at the same time and they included that in the 4 hour labor charge.

Now, my oil temps have maxed at 235F. Usually it goes no higher than 220F. Out doing canyon carving, it still stays at 220F, which is lower than romping on it a few times in traffic. Probably because of more air flow across the cooler at road speeds. I'm guessing that track speeds may keep temps lower than in the city too, even though you're working the engine hard.

They used the Setrab unit on all the Nissan press vehicles and they were running them in the desert at 80+ F in track conditions and no one ever mentioned "limp mode" in the initial reviews of the 370z.

It would be an expensive and painful mistake to find out the Setrab unit is deficient for track use by installing it. If anyone with a Setrab unit has had to go to limp mode at the track, please tell us!

Oh well for nissan honoring the warranty once I got to the Dealership the story had changed so off to customer affairs will see if I get a response. Daily outside temp around 90 oil temps 260 to 270

any update about the beefer stillen oil cooler?

All of the specs are mapped out, we just need time with a vehicle, which should happen next week, and we can finalize everything.

FYI- the 19 row 6 series (6 inch length) Setrab has a 27,000 to 37,000 btu/hr (heat dissipation per hour) rating.

A 34 row 6 series has a 43,000 to 59,000 btu/hr rating.

That's almost double the cooling capability.

We've done some specific analysis of bigger cores, and cooling abilities, and believe we have found a great solution for the guys wanting maximum cooling.

This will also include an upgrade path for those who have the current STILLEN kit.

Sweet! I like the "upgrade path" idea. I haven't been having issues with the current Stillen/Setrab unit, but I'm not tracking my car. It's nice to know that it won't be a problem when I want to.

I will be tracking my Z and I want that level of protection. I used to take my G35 to Summit Point Speedway but have been holding off on the 370Z until I get an oil cooler. The Nissan Motorsports unit looked perfect until I realized it did not have a thermostatic capability. It can get cold in the winter in northern Virginia. From what I hear, the Stillen unit will be equivalent to the nissan motor-sports core and has a thermostatic sandwich plate.

I spoke with my dealer and they recognize Stillen as an approved after-market parts supplier. Do you know how many other companies they mentioned... other than Nismo... none. Of course, the dealer would have to do the install.

I am not saying that the Stillen unit is any better than just purchasing a Setrab cooler, Mocal thermostatic sandwich plate, and Goodrich lines. But at least Nissan recognizes this company. This should be worth the additional cost if you find your self in the unenviable position of fighting a warranty claim.

Stillen. Let me know when that beefed up thermostatic cooler is available. I will be the first one on the list.

Oil cooler flow rates
 

I am interested in the oil flow rates using typicall aftermarket oil coolers (Mocal,Seatrab,etc.) Anyone know the oil flow rate for the 370Z?

Also, anyone install a oil pressure gauge on a 370Z yet?

I believe Modshack has oil pressure monitored.
