Default Oil change intervals

New 370 roadster owner. I am told by the dealership that Nissan requires the oil to be changed at 6000 km &/or 3months. This supposedly with their ester oil at about 150 Cdn $ each time. I just came from a Porsche where the change interval was one year or 24000 km-the longest I went in 12months was15000 km, had the oil analyzed as always, and the oil was healthy. Why this short interval required by Nissan other than to make the dealer a boatload of money? Thanks for any responses.

Warranty considerations are why I would be concerned by not adhering the their schedule.

In the manual there is a 3 month (normal duty) and a 6 month (light duty) service schedule. If you use the car as a daily driver (normal duty) you are going to be changing oil often.

Also remember that you should be using ester oil to best protect the valve train.

Got hold of a lady at Nissan Canada.....the 3 month 6000 km is reccomended only.....the 6 month 12000 km pol change is required for warranty purposes. I've been getting my oil analyzed for years at Blackstone and will continue with my 370. Very much enjoy this car.

The manual says 3750 but everytime I go to the dealer they always put it at 3000. Maybe they just want to cash in sooner on customers. I know Toyota dealers say all their new cars is 5k mile oil change

Default Changing Oil

I have had my car for 11 months and have only 2200 miles. I was wondering when should I perform my first oil change since I don't drive the car that much.

At 500 miles for the first time if you are paranoid on metal shavings... If not, at 4 months or 3,000 miles. So in your case, I would change it ASAP.

It's probably not absolutely necessary yet, but I would go ahead and change the oil.

Random guy on the internet says the break-in process deposits tiny metal bits into your oil more than normal driving after the 1200 miles is done. Lots of people change their oil around 1500 to clean out all these bits. I'm pretty sure a Blackstone UOA will confirm this kind of thinking.

FWIW, I don't think I got to change mine until closer to 3K miles. 53K miles later and no worries

I change my car oil every 12 months or 3,000 miles, whichever one happens first.

I drive it like I stole it, but pamper it like I owe on it
