Am I burning oil? 7.5 quarts in but only 5 quarts out.
A few months ago I had a 25-row Stillen oil cooler installed.
The guy who did it said it took about 7.5 quarts of ester oil and that sounded about right. Fast forward to today when I took it in for an oil change. I provided the tech with the 8 quarts of ester oil and told him that's how much it'll need. I picked up my car and went home. Later I opened up my trunk and noticed I still have 3 bottles of ester oil left over. I called the tech and he said it only needed 5 quarts. I checked the dip stick earlier and it looks right. So I thought about it for a while and I'm reasoning that there's about 2.5 quarts of oil still in the engine, lines, and cooler itself. It's kinda like maple syrup inside a bottle, you can try to pour all of it out but some of it will stick to walls and never come out. Do you suppose this is the case? Or should I be worried that my Z is burning oil? |
when you first install a cooler, you need some additional oil in it.
a 25 row shouldnt add more than a quart. so your looking at around 6.5 quarts on a complete oil change. When yo change the oil after that, it doesnt fully drain the oil cooler and/or lines so you only need around 5 to 5.5 quarts per change until you also dump the oil from inside the cooler. and think about it, if you were burning oil you would be needing MORE oil.. not less. |
Thanks! =)
+1 rep for you. |
Sounds as if the first guy charged you for 7.5 or 8 quarts and only used 6.
