Oil Question

I think I am going to go with redline 5w30 since my temps are not getting above 230 for now and we will see if there is any slight differences.

From the uoa's I've seen some of the "boutique" oils like Redline and Royal Purple have been disappointing. Pennzoil Platinum and some formulations of Castrol Edge seem to have the most consistently good uoa's, although they shear some too. This VQ motor really shears oil badly. For a conventional oil Castrol GTX gets pretty outstanding uoa's on this motor. Normally a good name brand oil will do well enough in most engines, but this VQ is kind of pain if you're anal about that sort of thing.

oil threads are awesome!

PS-my two cents: the "best" oils for this car seem to be GC (german castrol) 0w30 and Mobil1 0w40. They're also easier to buy (off the shelf) vs. some of the other good choices like redline etc.

Is that GC still available? At least in the formulation that tested so well? I'll have to look at the M1 0W40 more closely. Aside from uoa what do you know about the formulation? M1 formulations have changed quite a bit over the years.

Mobil1 0w40 has very favorable uoa's as well as it's still a true synthetic vs. all the other mobil 1 formulations ie. 5w30 etc.

Not to mention, it's also standard fill for the GTR, Viper etc, so I'm in good company.

I've tried a few off the shelf synthetics, GC was the best of the bunch so far (my own UOA results).

I've only found GC at autozone.
