Thanks for all the info guys - now it's just back to the haggling game with the dealer. They were telling me the leftover 2010 I am thinking of buying is worth a lot more because there are no 2011's available due to the Tsunami, and that a 2010 is worth the same as a 2011 because they are both new cars .
That's all true, right? |

Will depend on the dealer. There is definitely a lack of inventory but some dealers are still willing to deal. Do a search on cars.com for 2010's and check out the prices. Many are discounted or at least were.

Wow, I was just kidding about the price thing
These cars seem to be sitting on dealer lots for months... people are saying in the buying forum that the going price is $1000 under *invoice* for a 2011. I have a verbal agreement from my dealer to sell the 2010 I am looking at for $3200 under invoice. We shall see how it goes - don't believe the dealer hype that these cars are hard to come by - no way. Nissan is doing $2,000 rebate to the dealer through July 6th and 0% APR for up to 5 years on financing. They don't do that unless they are hurting to move the cars. It's nothing against the car, I think it appears to be the sporty car deal of the decade, but reality is they are selling way below invoice. |

I will admit that the SRM has scared the fvck outta me a couple times when I was in 4th, reaching for 5th and accidentally pushed it up to the gate that would've taken me into third! My zed responded immediately with a WOT shriek and I very nearly spilled my Orange Shasta!

I bought a 2010 model new on March 27 of this year, which is the dealer's year-end, I believe. They gave me a discounted price of $3000 less than MSRP because they wanted it sold before year-end. It was the last 370Z they had, plus it was exactly the trim model I wanted, Base/Sport in Black Cherry with the mudflaps.
With that said, another dealer ship within a couple hours distance has 3-4 2011 370Zs all sitting in their lot. No point in my opinion to get the 2011 when you should get a 2010 for a discounted price. Don't let the dealer try and talk to you into paying MSRP for a 2010 now - when you go to sell the car no one will know it's only been used for 1 less year, they'll just see 2010 model year and it hurts your resale value. If you scan the forums here you'll see there aren't any major anticipated changes to the 2012 model year, so you're guaranteed to have a "new" appearing Z for at least 1-2 more years if you buy right now. And by the way, don't even consider buying without the Sport Package...the car should have never come without it. |

The rev matching is as close to perfect as its going to get IMHO. You can throw it in any gear AT ANY GEAR and the down shifts will match perfectly. But it doesn't mean its OK to drop it in a lower gear that's out of range. Some including myself, will say that it seems to match up shifts. I say this because, when its off, my up shifts don't feel as smooth as when it's on. How it does it?! I dunno. But I also think there are sensors in the gates. The computer will calculate and bring the revs up as soon as you trigger one of them. Then you drop the clutch and mash the pedal. It will do it all day without fail.

alright the purist has spoken we all knew it would happen, now yes it does work flawlessly and that pisses off some people who think they are better than the machine. If you hold the gas down it still powershifts, if you don't it still engine brakes, when you push the clutch in with the shifter in a gear it will hold rpm's for you until you move the shifter incase you let the clutch back out, when coming to a stop i just push the shifter to the right (not in any gear) and it won't rev at ricers or the police and old ladys, (you can actually rev the engine while driving through town just by bumping the stick to left should you see something to rev at)

I had one small problem with the syncro rev system: it doesn't seem to rev match when downshifting from second into first. This was only an issue in autocross.
I bought my 2010 Nismo last month for about a grand into the dealer holdback. 2010 will save you some coin if it's all the same to you. |
