Oil cooler clearance
I looked thru most of the oil cooler threads and did not find much info on the clearance
needed for the SS lines over the swaybar. I installed the 19-row Stillen oil cooler over the weekend and routed the SS lines like the instructions say to over the swaybar and out a hole that I cut. Question is how much clearance do you need between the SS lines/fittings and the swaybar?? I have about 3/4inch of clearance and about 3/8inch clearance to the alternator, I called Stillen and they said it should be ok, but if I was worried, then dis-connect swaybar ends and move the bar up and down to see if it hits. Well I did not like this advice and choose not to do it, so does anybody know if the swaybar will move up and down enough to hit them?? do they move up and down much at all?? I installed the thermostatic plate version to. thx for all help........ -Smokejr |
Given where the mounts are (pivot points for the bar), the center section would be at its maximum height when the wheels are hanging down at the limit of suspension travel, which should be what you get when you put the front of the car on jackstands with the wheels hanging free. If you're not hitting any lines/fittings like that, you're not going to hit them driving.

The sway bar moves quite a bit at the ends that are attached to the wheels. It will move as much as the wheel moves with the suspension travel. The center section (in-between the brackets) moves about 1/3 as much. You should route the lines close to the sway bar bracket as that is a fixed pivot point.
