Default Axel Codes

Hey guys,

I tried searching and couldn't find anything. I am trying to determine which axle I have. My axle code is RC33

I am trying to figure out if I have an LSD and what my rear end gear ratio is.

Thanks
Keith

was it sport or base, manual or automatic? there really aren't that many choices and if you bought used and aren't sure what the previous owner did than you could have any number of aftermarket lsd and gear sets thrown in it anyway. If its a sport manual or automatic you have the nissan vlsd rear end the automatics have a different case and smaller carrier. the viscous units have different axle flanges from the open units, one is the same and the other is a longer spline that makes putting in an aftermarket lsd more challenging.

automatic: 3.357 manual: 3.692

Thanks for the reply,

it is an 09 touring (base) auto. It only had 7500 miles on it when i bought it so I bought anyone has done anything to it.

I am wondering if I bought the entire rear end out of a manual nismo including drive shaft. What problems am I going to run into swapping these out?

I have read it is a pain to install an aftermarket LSD in these.

My goal is go to a little shorter gears and gain LSD before I do too much to it power wise.

Thanks
Keith

the 4.06 gears thread will help you out with some of your question like how an automatic reacts with shorter gears, you shouldn't need the driveshaft, and there is NOTHING special about a 370nismo rearend it is the exact same as the sport rearend. Easiest swap for you would be a sport automatic rearend but that is the same ratio as what you have already and there is limited support for aftermarket LSD's.

Also instaling an LSD in ANY differential is basically the same, the only LSD's that are more difficult to instal are center diff's on an AWD and FWD cars, also porches and corvettes suck to install as well. that said you need the proper tools, information, and parts to do it. If you want aftermarket get a manual rearend as they make more LSD's and gears for that case.

(also the stock lsd is failure prone and sucks anyway)

That helps a lot thanks!

So am I understanding this correctly. If I want to go aftermarket I should find a donor axle out of a manual? Do I just need the differential or the entire axel?

Thanks
