370z Clutch Smell
So i just picked up my 370z two weeks ago. It was brand new with 5 miles and has about 700 miles on it now.
I notice sometimes while getting out of the car that i smell a faint clutch smell only. Really only happens when i try to smell it, like putting my head at the windshield wipers. I have driving manual for 5 years and never burnt any clutches out and never had any problems. Is there such thing as breaking it in or do i not know how to drive? I mostly notice it when backing up somewhere i think. |

Normal, most of the break-in for a car is relating to the driveline like the rear-end, clutch, and transmission. Also the brakes. The engines are usually pretty G2G when you get the car. That being said, the only new car I ever owned was not a Nissan, but it burned a little more oil in the first 2-300 miles and then didn't burn a drop after that. Tail-pipes were sooted up for those first few hundred miles, now clean after driving.

I only smell it when I burn the clutch, and its a horrible smell. Makes you never want to do it again lol.
I bought mine already broken in but my buddy said his 370's cluth gave off a smell under the first 1000 kms, he thought something was wrong

As everyone has said, it's normal during the break in period.
Also, make sure you regularly check your oil levels. Some of the VQs like to burn oil, and some tend to burn the most while they are breaking in.

Anyway that's good news, thanks for the replies. Yes it is a horrible smell! I smelt it pretty bad one day and it scared me so i have been trying to smell it recently. Sometimes i can but very faintly so i guess it should stop completely soon. Just glad to know other people have experienced this, thought for awhile i was really ****ing up. |
