Rev Limit?

I got a 2011 Pearl White Nissan 370Z.IDK if its just my car or if everyone's is like this. But when im in neutral and I rev my engine it wont rev past 4800 RPM. Is anybody else's care like this? I hope its not just my car.

put it in first, hold the clutch in, and try again. See what happens.

I've never reved my car that high in neutral. But most likely it's there for the safety of the motor. I personally wouldn't want to free rev my motor that high.

Yeah, the engine restricts it self from revving any higher in neutral. It's normal.

Revving an engine in neutral isn't any worse than running through the rev range while driving in gear. Unless the engine is not up to operating temperature, revving with no load will not hurt the engine. It is there to prevent people from revving to the redline and then dumping the clutch/AT into gear.

OP: If you have AT then its normal, If you have MT then something is wrong

No load revving is actually very rough on an engine, and should be avoided.

The answer is in that book in the glove box. Read it, it has a lot of useful info on your new car.

Short answer...normal. Here is the actual quote:
"When racing the engine up to 4,500 rpm or more under no load condition, the engine will enter the fuel cut mode."
