noise from oem flywheel/clutch at idle?
Hey guys,
I've got a pretty weird noise at idle coming from what I think is the clutch or flywheel at idle. *sounds like a rotating/grinding. *the noise stops when I depress the clutch pedal. *it's not very noticeable on cold starts, but when the engine warms up, it's fairly loud. *also have a little issue with turning off the car... when I hit the button it just sounds like the engine dies... this car is really pissing me off! here's a video clip of the noise... bare with it, the first 20 sec or so is nothing... I alternate between depressing the clutch pedal and releasing it. the end of the vid I turn off the car so u can hear that too. http://i889.photobucket.com/albums/a...i/cae12ba0.mp4 Thanks in advance. |
tons of threads on this dude. it's normal.

Seems normal to me. Just about sounds like mine. But hard to tell from a vid.
If you are talking about the "marbles rolling around in the clutch area" sound, yeah.......normal unfortunately. Hopefully this will go away with a twin plate swap or aftermarket clutch, but I won't know until my current clutch is dead or close to it.
Normal! You want noisy, listen to the dry clutch on my BMW K1200RS, it sounds like a box of rocks.
gee i thought nissan fixed this after they had this problem with the 350z
I listened to the vid and it sounds like my car. it's just how the factory setup sounds. not being rude, it's just how this car is.

deff should be a issue nissan should fix because its very loud. even when the windows are up you can still hear it.
Normal.
"normal" in that all our cars have it.
I can't hear ****, next time try pointing the camera at the car instead of a wall.
Is this noise also similar to releasing the clutch too quickly while engaging 1st or 2nd gear and not giving it enough gas? In other words... the marbles rolling around sound, as if the engine were about to die?
I used to have it but after 15k miles it went away

Which? The idle noise the OP was referring to (if in neutral, depress/release clutch) or what I was talking about, engaging 1st or 2nd from stop? |
Yeah, your car will keep happily making that noise for many miles to come. :)

To be clear, are you referring to the OP's original claim of idle noise, or my reference to engaing 1st/2nd from stop? Or maybe BOTH? |

Your noise (marbles rolling around when almost killing the engine from a stop) *might* be knock, but I'm not sure. There is also that "clunk" when going from 1st to 2nd at low RPM, maybe you are reproducing that same noise by trying to get the car rolling without enough RPM. |

That is totally normal. |
my 09 has the same problem
Get a solid flyeheel and slightly heavier transmission fluid. Most of the noise will go away.
Your idle noises sound normal. My camaro was alot louder (6mt too). I think someone once said it was a noise form the throw out bearing.
The noise at the end does not sound right - when you shut off the car. Mine has no such clunk. |
Your car sounds identical to mine, literally. I'm just over 8k miles. My car has always sounded like this.
You guys aint heard nothing yet..
The sound of a Ducati Clutch - YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WqOr6...eature=related Yes, that is a normal sound. |
