Who uses Synthetic Oil?

I only have 400 miles on my 2011 Nismo, was wondering when would be the best time for my first oil change and how many would recommend using a Synthetic instead of standard?? Thanks in advance! :tiphat:

Anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong...but I don't believe standard oil is an option with our cars. It requires an ester oil. I don't have the full list of them, you can use the search feature for that. I'm using Mobile 1. Others are using Redline.

When? Plenty opinions there too. But I'd probably wait atleast until after break-in.

Most wait till after break-in for the first oil change, then if you move from Ester to Synthetic, do it at the next oil change at around 5000 miles. Everybody does it differently, but I think thats a widely used formula.

i would wait till you are at 3k for your first oil change just to get the most out of your factory fill. But you can switch to synthetic ANYTIME. I run redline, all long as its a good brand and you keep the intervals you will be fine

I use Synthetics. I got my car new last summer and got an oil change at the break in period, think it was 1,200 miles?? you can use it whenever you want, I see no reason why it would harm anything. Nissan offered it to me when i went to them to get it changed... My Nissan dealership used Pennzoil FullSyn...

I used standard oil during my very first oil change. Standard oil was recommended for proper break-in. I ll then move on to full synthetic for the ensuing oil changes. None of the expensive Ester based oil for me, the dealer stated that there was pretty much no difference between ester and synthetic oil other than the fact that the former costs $90 vs $60 for the latter. The dealer also noted that the car won't break down just because one used full synthetic oil. They are as equally good for engine life!

my first oil change at 2100 miles done at the dealer free of charge. now my car has 5000 miles. i'm going to do it this weekend with Mobil 1 synthetic.

I didn't see anything in the owner's manual that says we can use standard oil. It just calls out 5W-30 with an SM API. Am I missing something? I only have 300 miles but wasn't planning to run synthetic in the car.

You do not have to run synthetic if you dont want to but why not? Its better value.

After 5K is fine.

That said, the factory fill is presumably a synthetic or synthetic blend.

One of the world's great marketing ploys continues to fool customers. Just put oil in your engine. The rest probably doesn't matter much.

I equate Nissan Ester Oil to other meaningless technology mind-f*cks such as progressive scan DVD players.
