Default Anyone swapped in a lower-ratio 6th gear yet?

On the maxima forums I remember a couple of guys swapping out the cog for 6th gear with a much lower ratio gear, for highway cruising purposes. They pulled it from another Nissan transmission, but I don't remember which. It fit without much hassle. I'm just curious whether anyone has tried this yet. Sure would be nice to cruise on the highway at 1750 rpm and 80mph. I don't really foresee myself redlining in 5th and needing to keep pulling through sixth.

I've always wanted the same thing.... 80mph at 2k rpm would be great...

Don't know of anyone that has, but subscribing in case some info comes up. I would like to be able to run 4.08's without losing out on the highway.

It would be nice. But not worth the cost of doing such.

It's not that hard to swap out gears if there is one that drops in.

I mean, I've never had to do it on a Z, but a good friend of mine and I could replace 2nd on my S2k and have it running again in 3.5 hours pretty consistently.

It's easy. The hardest part is just accessing what you need to get to in order to do the work.

Most all work on cars is easy once you think it out. If you understand how a system works and think everything through, and take your time, it shouldn't be too difficult to perform most any work on an engine/transmission. The difficulty is just access, specialty tools, and finding the balls to rip into something that might cost $5k to replace if you break it.
