Is it time already

Last oil change was October 25. Hit 5k miles interval last week. I know synthetic is good for 5k but wow it was only 4 months ago what do you guys think

"Only" four months? Holy cow. I usually ended up changing mine every 6-8 weeks for every car I've owned. My previous car was an 05 Mustang with 209K miles on it, and I was putting 3-4K a month on my Z until it died 2 weeks ago. I own a car to drive it, not garage it. I always changed oil every 5K miles, whether I hit that mark in 2 weeks or 2 months.

Not to thread jack, but how did you end up toasting the Z?

I agree with all of the above, if you hit 5k change the oil. Most people report the car running smoother with synthetics too, I know I was excited to reach the 5k mark for that reason.

I change every 4 months or 4k miles, whichever comes first. Doesn't really hurt to change early.

I drive my Z no more than 5,000 easy miles a year. When I switch to synthetic after I hit 10,000 miles, I will change the oil only once a year. Each oil change will have no more than 5,000 easily driven miles on it, even though the oil will have been the car for a year. I don't think that's harmful. Am I wrong here? Is the time issue (up to 12 months) a concern?

Where did you come up with such figure? Synthetic oil is good for what's your oil analysis reveals. Same oil in a new Z can ONLY be good for 4000 miles interval but when the same car reaches 20000 miles, you can do 6-7000 miles interval. Your best bet will be to get a oil analysis done and ask them how often. They will guide you accordingly taking into consideration the condition of your car (particles they find in your car oil analysis).

Like AK wrote analysis is the only way how long your oil will last for you. There are just too many variables.

In the US we tend to go with shorter changes because oil is relatively cheap and we aren't as environmentally conservative as parts of Europe, where they tend to stretch oil changes to between 9K and 12K or more.

Regardless of how often you change your oil, make sure you are at least checking the oil level every 1K miles.

I do full syn every 3 months or 3k miles. I have only put 3k miles on it in over a year but have done 6 oil changes.

Follow the owner's manual.

^^^ This.

Blackstone advised me to go up to 6K on Castrol 0W30, but it will vary somewhat depending on the oil, your driving, and ambient conditions.

The owner's manual recommends two intervals; the shorter one (3700 miles) is for stop and go driving, but going 4K or a little more isn't much beyond that, and most studies on appropriate OCI's point to longer rather than shorter intervals.
