Help!
I've searched the hell out of this and couldn't find anybody else with the same issue, I was pulling out of chick fil a today and suddenly with no warning my car starts shaking violently, and it feels like its coming from the engine. When I start to accelerate and reach 2500rpm and it starts going crazy and bliping the rpm needle up and down not wanting to go past 2500rpm. It's not overheating but the temp guage is starting to rise. The service engine light also came on at the same time and is steady and not blinking. I filled up right before with premium gas from a 7 eleven just before and I checked my gas cap and it's tight. Any suggestions?

I believe your car is in limp mode which doesn't allow it to go past 2500rpm. It's usually caused by the ecu detecting a problem like overheating. Run it up to the Nissan dealership and have them clear the code. However, if it is overheating...you may want to look at fluid levels and check for leaks yourself.
Edit: actually, i believe if you turn it off for a bit, it will come out of limp mode by itself. Can someone else verify? Last edited by Osiris; 02-26-2011 at 01:24 PM. |

I checked the Oil and other fluids and nothings out of the ordinary, plus im in Virginia and it hasnt gotten above 70 this year so I wouldn't see why it would overheat. But I'm probably goin to have it towed instead of having to drive it to the dealership and risk something else going wrong. I forgot to state in my last post I have 18k miles if that helps any.

Yea that may be wise. Luckily i haven't personally had mine go into limp mode, but from what i've read here on this forum, others have experienced it from driving the car hard and the oil temp going high. These cars have had issues in the past with oil temps.

I had limp mode on my G37 one time. It is some werd $hit. I just turned the car off, restarted and it never happened again.

So say it is in limp mode, after letting it cool down for a little bit should I disconnect the negative terminal on the battery to reset the ECU?

Limp mode limits revs but why was it shaking? Let us know what Nissan says, good luck!
P.S: I would not mess with it and risk the issue going away only for it to happen later on, you wont be able to get a root cause. I say take it the way it is to the dealership and let them figure it out. |

There could be many small reasons this happened. But you don't have to reset the ECU. Should be able to simply turn the car off and restart.

Immediately after filling up? Could be bad tank of gas...
If you can make it to an Autozone, have them get the CEL code for you. if it won't run, I'd just tow it ot the dealer -- new car, under warranty.
