What can I expect from these mods?
I apologize if this has been asked a zillion times but thought others new to this car might have the same questions. I have a base model 2009 370Z, red with spoiler package. Based on what I have read on this very informative forum, I was thinking of going with the dual air filters (best brand?) headers (best brand?) and the Stillen exhaust system and mufflers. What should I expect to pay for this and what kind of horse power should this set up generate above the stock 332 hp? Finally, if the top speed is limited, what would be the value of these mods? Could they improve zero to 60 times and are there other benefits? As to what I am after, it is a daily driver, I don't plan to race it, but I would like to get the best from this great car. Thanks in advance.

For filters, are you talking about Drop in's or a full intake? If you're talking Drop in's, your options are K&N or AEM. Both you can net for about $100 for a pair. For headers are you looking for Long Tube or Stock replacement? For Long Tube, there's F.I. and shorty's Stillen. Both can be found on here through their respective vendors. When it comes to your 0-60 times, depending on what you have done can help a bit, but the Z has a 0-60 limiter. So at some point, you will inevitably plateau unless you decide to get it tuned and have that limiter disengaged. Same rule applies to top speed... Price wise... Drop in Filters: $100~ Full intakes: $500~ Headers: Long Tubes: $1200~ (F.I.) For all parts stillen, there are several Stillen reps on here, shoot them a PM to get the best prices since I can't remember off the top of my head. They should give you a good idea of what you're total cost would be if you stay stillen all the way. Hopefully this helps a bit.

For XwChriswX
That is a big help. I have to consider if it is even worth it to do all that for a little gain in hp and maybe little or none in 0 to 60 and top speed. I hadn't thought of that. Again, great answer and I appreciate it.

From what I've read, the first mod to the intake or exhaust yields the biggest gain. So HFCs give you a boost, CBE gets a boost, and Headers do the same. But the gains don't add up in a linear way.
Don't neglect other mods that help with acceleration: A lightweight clutch, an LSD for your Base model, and unsprung weight reductions are other options to consider. My personal plan consists of: FI CBE K&N Drop In filters Lighter tires than stock Once my warranty expires: Tune LSD (I might not wait on that :-) Lightweight clutch (I like the options at SZ) Each mod is designed to improve the daily enjoyment of the car, and get the most of of the Z.

Just to give you an Idea of what you can get from a few basic bolt-ons... Intakes I went with K&N Drop in Filters and HPS Post MAF Tubes, Berk Test Pipes and HKS Exhaust and that combo gave me +22whp and droped my 13.3 1/4mile time to a 12.9 and Im sure with the current set up I could get a 12.6 due to how bad the track conditions were when I ran the 12.9. So in short yes basic breathing mods will help better your results on the track

Hopefully this helps a bit. [/QUOTE] What? I know of the top speed limiter but, never heard of a 0-60 limiter before? Why would Nissan do this? That's insane... |
