What is your stock torque??
Hello,
For those of you that are still stock/NA, looking to see what your wheel torque is. So, anyone that's had a dyno (please specify if dynojet or mustang), post up your whp/wtq. Thanks!! |
I can't say I have my own torque numbers but I've seen a couple baseline dynos and they all make anywhere from 260-290 lb-ft.
|
do you recall if those were done on a dynojet or a mustang dyno?
|
I think the reason for the variance might have been either the fact they were on a Dynojet or a Mustang dyno... I'd have to look them up again.

My baseline on a Mustang Dyno in 3rd Gear was 211 TQ. |

Mustang dynos and other load holding ones will be all over the place because you can mess with the settings...
On a dynojet, which is more consistent across shops (weight of drum is fixed, only "fudge factors" are the corrections you use) you're looking at about 226 +/-3 lb-ft, SAE corrected. Whp will be about 275 +/- 5, SAE corrected. Lower if dynoed below 5K on motor. Higher overall if a Nismo. No clear difference between AT and MT overall; some evidence of about 1% greater losses for the AT where peak torque is made. |
Note: Peak torque will be measured higher if dynoed in 5th rather than 4th gear -- this is an artifact of gear multiplication, and I believe 4th gear will provide more stable values that can be compared from vehicle to vehicle (even with non OEM tire sizes) and across transmissions.
In 4th gear, looks like my original torque estimate is correct; in 5th gear is appears to be closer to 235-240 lb ft. Although 1:1 is 5th for both transmsissions, most of the dynos I have seen were done in 4th gear for the 6MT -- and always for the 7AT. To get consistent estimates across vehicles, my suggestion is that everyone just dyno in 4th. Failing that at least note the gear when you post dyno graphs or report values to the rest of us -- gearing makes a big difference in what is actually measured, and that will affect how we interpret the effect of mods.
