GMT 4.2L and 4.5L stroker kit pros and cons

Can you guys tell what the advantages and disadvantages of the GTM 4.5L kit and GTM 4.2L are. Don't you guys think a 4.2L or 4.5L V6 is big or is it just me.

Your treading in unfamiliar water. There is only one person with that engine in his car ATM and we are waiting for the results. As for being big it's all a matter of your power hunger and how much you want to spend.

G37sHKS 02-12-2011 10:19 PM

I dont know, Nobody buys a stroker kit on this car actually.

if you have that enough of money then go for TT and call it a day

:iagree: I feel there is no great advantages to be had.

Nitrouz 02-13-2011 10:33 AM

^the replacement for displacement is boost. ;)

OP - really depends on what you want it for. I've gone down that road many times over, and had the first stroker kit GTM did back in the 350z days. Feel free to PM me any questions you have. I've actually DRIVEN a GTM stroker kitted car (mine) for over a year through all conditions (track, street, backroad, hot, cold, daily driving, etc).

Mjthind 02-13-2011 10:36 AM

Actually GMT the same guys that also make a TT for the 370z make a stroker kit too. They make 4.2L and 4.5L stroker kit.

Mjthind 02-13-2011 10:43 AM

Since money is off the table then you need to find the 'purpose' of this build.
Track
Street
Show
Other

Once you pick that then start piecing together what it will take it to be stable, reliable, and usable in that category.

Mjthind 02-13-2011 11:02 AM

I

Mjthind 02-13-2011 11:04 AM

I loved watch people tuning my brother always tuned cars and want to do the same and my purpose is enjoyment

SPOHN 02-13-2011 11:13 AM

Bigger displacement could equal bigger problems or issues. Especially if you run high boost. You could have head lift issues along with coolant leak issues from what I've seen. These issues might have been solved by now. Not that there were many issues. I just remember a couple on some 350z that where running big stroker and high boost.

Nitrouz 02-13-2011 04:20 PM

OP - enjoy it for what it is first. You said your dad won't buy u another car until you're 21. Since this is your first car, just drive it as it is. You have no idea what its like to build that big and its downtime. Make your own money, then say "I don't have any price limit".

SPOHN 02-13-2011 05:39 PM

:iagree:

Mjthind 02-13-2011 05:48 PM

I used to drive my bros 06 m5 to school i can handle the power trust me i drove to school started driving sophomore year and drove it till halfway of senior year then i got the 370z and dont worry im not mad . my uncle said the same thing Nitrouz said to me

shabarivas 02-13-2011 06:00 PM

Hmm sounds to me like you should feel it out stock to see what you think it needs... if money is no budget for you and you are for some reason stuck with said 370 - go balls out and have GTM build you a car - If you wanted to mod it yourself - start small and get to know the ins and outs of the car before you go crazy on it... and most of all - post pics

Mjthind 02-13-2011 06:41 PM

havent you read the side i am goin to get one. just doin a little preplanin

SPOHN 02-13-2011 07:27 PM

henry0844 02-13-2011 08:13 PM

this car u all r speaking of is in a mag and it says the 4.5 kit with twin turbos puts down 1000whp. I forgot what mag it's in but I just read about it yesterday.

henry0844 02-13-2011 08:15 PM

talk about spoiled, has a 370 out of highschool that he didn't pay for and isn't satisfied. wow, people amaze me.

weiboy718 02-13-2011 08:21 PM

Damn rich kids!

henry0844 02-13-2011 08:42 PM

don't care about rich, money does not equal happiness as evidenced by this person. has a 370 and I still not happy with it. American attitude at it's best. no offense to y'all but people need to get back to reality.

Mjthind 02-14-2011 12:02 AM

Don't get me wrong here I am totally satisfied with the car. I just want to have powerful car

Look, man, I understand the feeling of power, but I'm 18 years and I have a 370Z. You contradicted yourself. If you were totally satisfied, you would drive it as is. Do yourself a favor and actually own the car and get a stable job.

My Z is more than enough to handle.

Mjthind 02-14-2011 12:41 AM

I know how to handle power I used to drive my bros 06 m5 and that is 500 hp I started driving at the end of sophomore year and that was the first car i drove. I drove it till the middle of senior year. the only reason bought the Z was it has a lot parts on the market and wanted to be able to do somthin to it unlike my bros m5 he has to keep totally stock cuz their no turbo kits for it and only thing you can do is put a body kit in it and have nice set of rims.

Kcuba370z 02-14-2011 12:59 AM

i think you should get a different car.

:iagree:

Just because you're driving an M5 does not mean you "understand" how to handle power. An M5 is a sport luxury saloon. It's a huge car that happens to have a lot of power. People get killed driving EVOs that put out 260 because they thought they could handle that "that small turn" before they ended up across the street, rolled over in the ditch. I know someone who was 17 when he lost control of his bugeye and wrapped the thing around a pole. You seem to think that since the Z has 332 crank and the M5 has 500 crank that the Z is automatically easier to control.

The Z, in comparison, has much less weight and a comparable power weight ratio. It has a smaller wheel base, which also equates to less control. It's also made mostly of aluminum. You crash at a significant speed and you'll be dead.

Do yourself a favor and buy something you can afford to build. A 350Z is a better choice, not going to lie. Parts are cheaper and proven. An 08 350Z was my initial plan.

Z eliminator 02-14-2011 06:55 AM

I have a 4.2 with the wolf 850 ttbb's and a speed forece built 5 AT.
Will be running by the end of the summer in my 2003 350z.
I found a shop to install it just saving my $ to pay for it.
" oh Sam its to bad that we are in differnent countrys and so far apart"
I just wish i could have you do the install and the tunning.
Its going to cost between $4500. $ 5000.00 for the install.\

Z

Mjthind 02-14-2011 04:59 PM

i can afford to get the parts and get then installed why? cuz i dont pay anyhting my dad said straight up to me if i got over an 4.0 he would buy a nice bradnew car ordered form factory and i can mod it any how ever i want to i have already ordered my Z its coming in May and i dont know why all you guys are hammering me down i just asked for suggestions

theDreamer 02-14-2011 05:10 PM

It is not we are discouraging you from doing this, but you must understand what it takes to do something like a TT kit and then a TT plus 4.2L stroker kit.
As someone who is getting into their first car, enjoying what you have first will help you realize what you want more. Drive the Z for a year, throw on some bolt ons and you might come to realize you do not like the car and want something else. No point in dumping in large sums of money you may not enjoy 1-2 years from now.

Mjthind 02-14-2011 05:19 PM

that what i doin i am goin to drive it for a year look at the highs and lows and then do somthin to it

It is because your a spoiled brat thinking a Z is easier than a M5 :stirthepot: Ok I got my Z thanks to my father helping with the loan but he doesn't go "oh hey here a car and if you want to mod it don't worry about money il just give you everything you want".

you should of gotten a GT-R

SPOHN 02-14-2011 05:23 PM
