Plannig on going the TT route, clutch ?
I'm having the short block replacement done this week and I'm planning to go with a TT setup in the near future and was wondering if the clutch and flywheel need to be replaced. I was thinking that now would be a good time to have it done seeing that the motor will be out of the car. Oh and if they need replacement I could use suggestions on what to get.
Thanks for the help, Tom |
It would be best to replace. But what kind depends on you future plans with the car. Like amount of power? Do you plan to track/ drag it? Being your going with a GTM kit Sam would give you the best advice. But OS Giken and Exedy clutches are great. But what stage you next not sure at the moment.

The stock clutch will fail at some point, or need to be replaced, so it will not hurt to replace it now.
Some, myself included, are still using the stock clutch currently with forced induction. |
stock clutch is good to 500+ hp.. If it ain't broke don't fix it!

But how long will it handle 500hp. Especially with hard launches and track time. If your going to pull the motor out to do FI and spend that much money. You might as well put in a decent clutch and call it the day.

If your shop is going to throw it in without charging you more money then sure , but most shop will still charge you the 4-5 hr labor even though the transmission is off.

You may as well "get er dun" while it's out. One less thing to worry about or have to do later.
I'm impressed with the offering from Z Speed Performance which use the Southbend clutches and flywheels and is what I have in my car presently. Stage 4 clutch/pressure plate and Billet solid flywheel. Future upgrades include the heavy duty CSC kit. |

Blackbird is at 51+rwhp on the stock clutch. At 540rwhp on the street the clutch slipped a tad in higher gears.
