Royal Purple. Engine Damage In The Long Term?
This might be somewhere on the forum, but I can't seem to find it. But anyways. I've had my Z for about a year now, bought it last April. And ever since than, I've ALWAYS change my oil every 7-8K thousand miles with Royal Purple, with a KN oil filter. But I had a discussion with one of my friends today, and they swear up and down that in the long term, Royal Purple will ultimately mess up your internals. My two friends are driving a Civic Si(K20) and a TSX(K20).
So the question is? is this true. If so? do you guys recommend switching to Mobile 1. With A Mobile Filter

I always used RP on my cars. Never had any issues with it....

7-8K, really?
I was running RP for awhile and once went all the way to 6K and it turned to sludge. I now just run M1 to about 5K and have had no problems, I as a general rule would never run to your intervals OP. |

i would switch...there are enough, rumors, stories or whatever floating around that actually makes you think. Royal P has one of those 50/50 reputations...thats enough for me NOT to want to use it

if you want to run longer in between oil changes I would suggest getting a synthetic filter. I switched to the RP filter and am giving that a try. I will cut it open at 5k and see what it looks like and make my determination from there with the oil evaluation. if it seems good I may try running it longer. I also use a larger filter, I can look up the number if you would like. In conjuction with the RP I always use Zmax as well. This all may be overkill especially with my 34 row oil cooler but it gives me a piece of mind. If I find that the RP is not doing what I like I will switch to something like redline or amsol.

The real question is Why are they saying it would cause problems, do that have any information to back up those claims or are they just repeating some rumor they heard somewhere?
I wouldn't worry about it, I've heard claims royal purple was bad but have not been able to find anything to back that up. I have seen information to support the claims of it being a quality product and talked to a few people who agree it is superior, for various reasons.

I used to run Redline oil then switched to M1. Really happy with it. I can't remember if it was on the forum or not, but there was a test with all the leading oils. They tested for how much metal deposits and what types of metals were left in the oil after it was drained. M1 was one of the top.

Thanks for the info though, I'm gonna switch to M1. What do you guys recommend changing it at? 5-6 maybe? and what kinda filter is best with M1?
