I wouldn't worry about it, I've heard claims royal purple was bad but have not been able to find anything to back that up. I have seen information to support the claims of it being a quality product and talked to a few people who agree it is superior, for various reasons.

I used to run Redline oil then switched to M1. Really happy with it. I can't remember if it was on the forum or not, but there was a test with all the leading oils. They tested for how much metal deposits and what types of metals were left in the oil after it was drained. M1 was one of the top.

I use the M1 filter as well, Pep Boys had a killer deal combining both 5qts of M1 and thr filter for $30.
Walmart has the 5qt jug for $27 The RP was in my 2004 350z with about 70K miles at the time. I have run RP for about 40K miles and had no issues prior. I pushed the interval to 6K and the master tech who inspected my Z said it looked horrible. |

Might not be the oil your using... I recommend using oil 5k and no more. Sometime I would use the gold extended performance M1 and still change it at 5k or may be 6k but if regular M1 5k would be the limit.

What about Rotella T Synthetic? I used to run that in all my cars when I found out about it. The price is decent (Walmart) and its mainly designed to be cleaner for use in Diesel trucks. Lots of tq and boost out of those engines...
I have not used it in years, for no good reason though. |

Rotella seems to be just about universally accepted as a high grade oil, my concern with using it in a car is how thick it is. Especially in the Z which for a special super thin oil.
That said I'm sure it wouldn't hurt anything, just stick with it if you make the change.

Negative. In oils, the "x" in xw-y, is the weight of the oil when cold. There is some variation in this category, but for the most part, a 5w-30 oil is as thick when cold as a 5w-40. If your talking about viscosity when hot, then yes, the 5w-40 will be a bit thicker than the 5w-30. |

That is of course why people like it since the zinc is what protects your motor, but it's also supposedly rotting out your cat's and killing us all ![]()
