opinion on oil
No not another oil debate. Just one quick question...
Do you think I'm pushing it by changing my oil every 5,000 miles? I'm using mobil1 with same brand filter. Thanks ,oh DD never on the track |
My personal preference:
Mobil 1 5W-30 with OEM Nissan filter, changed every 3500miles. |
Probably not.
Get a Blackstone oil analysis and spring for the extra analysis that tells you how long you can go on oil change intervals with the oil you are using. They recommended I go 6K between changes on Castrol 0W30. I'd wait until you are approaching 20K tho' -- wear-in particles will still be high until then. |
Id change if its break in miles on it
|
Once break in is over 5K should be ok... But if your hard on the car I would change it sooner.

Yes, you'll be fine. Nissan advices an oil change interval for the Z in Europe of 9000 miles/15000 km, using sythetic oil. Exactly the same car as the one sold here. So why should we change our oil every 3750 miles??? The 3000 mile oil change "rule" is BS, only good for the oil companies and service stations... I talked to one of the reps at the Redline booth at SEMA last year and even he told me I should be fine changing oil at 5000 miles and that changing at 3000 is over kill.
|
I change mine every 3,000 miles just to have as much insurance and peace of mind as I think is reasonable. I do run my car through the canyons with some other Z guys so that type of driving is also factored into why I change it every 3,000 miles with Redline 5w30.

Everytime I do/see an oil change, I see the mass of black liquid coming out; regardless of the interval, I'm sticking to 3750. At 3000+ miles, the oil's pretty dirty; I'd rather take that crap out than continuing running the engine past that.

An oil change is one of the cheapest maintenance items one can perform on their car, but if neglected can be the cause of the costliest repairs. |
